I have a cord for cable internet I'd like to plug into my computer at home, but my computer is rather outdated and will only accept the smaller phone cord size. Is there anything I can buy that I can plug the cable line into, and have it convert into a regular phone cord to plug into my computer? If so, what is it called and where can I get one?

No, there's no such thing. The socket you are talking about belongs to a (dial-up) modem.
Your computer seems to be really old that it doesn't have ethernet card. However, you could buy a ethernet card (example http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=876420&CatId=587) but I am not sure that your computer's motherboard supports it.

Because the cat 5 (computer cable) is a different animal than the cat 3 (phone cable) you have to look at this as do I want to take the time an expense to tackle this.
If this might be the case, what you need to do is convert the cat 5 into a cat 3 phone line which will give a much better signal to noise because of its size than the smaller cord.
Go to Home Depot and purchase a Network Tool Kit. You will have what you need to make it work.
A cat 5 (computer line) has 4 pairs of smaller wires. A cat 3 (phone line) has 4 or 6 small wires.
In the NTK you will have both types of tips. Cut your computer line behind each tip. Take the white/blue & blue from each end. Twist the others around the cable. You will not need them anymore.
Find the RJ11 (smaller tips) in the kit. You will only need about 1/2 inch of the white/blue & blue wire sticking out of your computer cable. These are the only two wires you need.
In bright light find the two center most holes in the open end of the tips and most important, make sure the locking tip is pointed down, and the white/blue is on your left. This make both ends the same when finished. Make sure you push the wire as far in as possible. Take the crimpers and without pulling on the wires stick the tip in and crimp each end, making sure the wire ends are all the way in.
Your modem needs only these two wires. Make sure if you do this your computer cable is long enough to make it a worthwhile project.
Have Fun.

instead of fighting with something that may or may not work... why not go to newegg.com and buy a network card to hook up to your cat5 cable?... worst case scenario you need an ISA card.

If your computer has ISA slots, I have a NIC card that I can no longer use, you would be welcome to it.
