that's a good question. is a temporary popularity on MTV enough to guarantee a musical legend status? I don't think so.
I think that it is terribly narrow minded of people to think that just because you obviously are not a fan, but are curious as to others thoughts about a subject that you must be a country music fan, that by the way is a terrible dig anyway, if they were at all versed in music they would know that much of rock stems from old country. And, obviously no one is reading the additional information that you added.
Regardless of Nirvana's 15 minutes of fame (yeah, Kurt didn't achieve it alone) Cobain is not a legend based purely on his musical contributions to humanity.
It's highly open of you (even if you did it crassly) to want to know what motivates people to idolize him.
Get a clue people, if you have something to prove, provide back up besides your own opinion.

It was about timing, it was about music being in the toilet and needing a someone to say it. I'm not sure how old you are (not to be condescending, but to see the context of it. It is posible that you would be too old too), but Nirvana was somehow music all the kids of the time could get into. It was a phenominon and a definite shift in music. Depending on what you're into, if you like modern rock you should thank Nirvana. They built it. Much like the Beatles, but obviously to a lesser extent every rock band that came after Nirvana was influenced by them. They sound different because Nirvana happened.
As for the suicide, say what you will, but he wasn't meant for the fame he received. Think about it, fame isn't necessarily this wonderful thing, especially for someone who didn't want it. He couldn't handle all of the attention and the pressure which was immense. Can you imagine living a life of NO privacy. Look at the celebrities of today. Cameras, screaming fans and people who don't like you around every corner and it never stops. He wasn't built to handle that.
Also, it wasn't his suicide that made him a legend. Maybe it preserved him (he never got the opportunity to pull a Rolling Stones and get too old but refuse to hang it up). He is a legend because when Nevermind came out everything changed.

It's very sad to say this, but sometimes dying is enough to make you a legend. If he had lived his music may have been forgotten like the music of many others, and I'm sure Kurt Cobain would not have wanted to be seen as a "legend" anyhow. From the way he spoke in interviews and all, you'd gather that he really wasn't happy being famous.

Kurt Cobain became a legend in his very own techniques ....until eventually he blew out with a shotgun. sure, I too have self belief Courtney Love became a minimum of in part in contact in Kurt's death, he got here down from one among his heroin highs and observed what he married. i think of each and every person might have carried out an identical. the main suitable ingredient i'm pissed approximately is whilst this overblown rocker drug addict commits suicide and it incredibly is front web site information, on an identical time Frank Zappa who did have a extensive impression to many musicians dies of maximum cancers and it gets a small article interior the want provides. Grrrrrrrr!

He was already a legend before his death. What did he do? Where have you been? Just stick to Country and Western. Rock Music is over your head. And yes, Nirvana did change the face of music overnight. I wasn't happy about it. But that is a fact. If you could ask any popular 80's band, they would tell you what happened to their career. The only bad thing about Nirvana is there was so many bands trying to sound jut like them.

I don't think he is a legend at all, and I am always disgusted by how people still mourn him on the anniversary of his suicide.
I don't think there was anything great about his music. Yes, Nirvana changed the music industry in 1992 , but certainly not for the better, and the whole grunge scene put a lot of great musicians out of work. I think in the long run Cobain and Nirvana did far more to hurt the industry than to help it.

I think he was on the way - but his early exit from this world will keep him away from legend status, in my mind anyway. To me, you have to demonstrate staying power and adaptability to acquire legend status in the music industry. U2 is probably the best current example of artists that have done this. While Nirvana's music has shown to hold up well, their demise has kept them from showing the adaptability I refer to. Think about U2 Boy vs their newer stuff, they have changed with the times, and they're still great. Would Nirvana have done the same?
We'll never know.

He was the voice of my generation, but i credit the entire band not just Kurt. Nirvana changed the music scene, before them all that was on Mtv was bad hair bands like Poison & Winger they were good looking, good hair, make up,...pretty boys w/ guitars & slow songs. Then came these guys from Seattle who KICKED THEIR ***!! They rocked harder, screamed anger, and looked like they got their clothes out of the trash. Kurt & Nirvana gave every angry, frustrated, and pissed off teenager a soundtrack.

ummm...he was actually a phenomenal musician. Some of his songs include Smells like teen spirit, Come as you are, Lithium, Rape me, Heartbreaker, Dive ect. ect.
True enough he chose the easy way out by leaving a wife and a baby girl in the world of the living, but it was his decision. Some people forget that the media does not know everything. He had a drug problem (which obstructs cognitive thinking) and depression that he was fighting.
I don’t believe that he was the "God of Rock" that most people believe. (That title goes to Elvis and this one black guy: the name escapes me at the moment)
He was just one of the people to get famous after his death. Just like Pablo Picasso. People flocked to them after their death.
Maybe he inspired people with the words to his music, or maybe he died in the love of music, or maybe he just couldn’t take it anymore. It may be because he wasn’t the man that he thought he was. One that could handle all the pressure of his particular way of life. Maybe he wasn’t a family man and should have stayed single. It’s something that we will never figure out since that was not written in his suicide note.
All I know is that he inspired people around the world. whether it was to remember to just have fun, be sexual when caused for, or to never give up on life(ironic isn’t it) he inspired them. If not, his music wouldn’t be played on KROQ or other rock or pop stations to this day.
