I took it to a mechanic and he told me I needed a new computer , so I bought one and it does exactly the same thing. During driving occasionally the check engine light would come on and then go off after a few minutes. the car will not allow me to put fuses in any more...... it blows them before I even get the dang thing plugged in and I do observe some sparks at the fuse location. The car does try to start .... in other words I know its not the battery, starter or alternator. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Why does your 85 have an electric pump? Aftermarket? the pump maybe going bad and pulling to many amps thus blowing the fuse. If it's an aftermarket fuse are you sure you have the right size fuse?

If the fuses blow when you try and install them you have a dead short in the wiring somewhere. Check back by the fuel pump itself first. If you have recently done any work on the car, look in that area. You may have pinched a wire and cut through the insulation. good luck.
PS. If all else fails, then take it to an auto electric repair shop.

somewhere along the line, there is a break in the wire insulation on the wire to the fuel pump that is allowing bare wire to touch metal and ground out. you have to trace the wire and find where the break is and repair that section

verify the connector the place the wires plug into the gas pump. it incredibly is loose and shorting out. Unplug it and seek for burns, or the completed difficulty may well be melted which may well be extra glaring. regrettably, this might require gaining get admission to to the ideal of the tank.
