How can somebody find out my IP adress? If I post an article on Wikipedia for example, can somebody find out my exact location? I'm kinda paranoid about such stuff. Thanks!

Every website knows your IP address, it is pretty important. It is how a site knows where to send it's information too.

An IP address will reveal your general geographic area. In my case, it narrows me down to about 1 out of 3 million people.

Your ISP issues your IP address to you, similar to your telephone provider issuing your phone number.

However, in the USA, the only way to get an ISP to release personal information ( name, telephone, address etc.) about a particular IP address is with a Court Order.

And Court Orders are usually only given out in the case of serious criminal activity.

I think you can relax!

It depends. Most ISPs use pooled IP addresses and subnets. The ISP acts as a gateway to the internet and most of the use software called DHCP to atomatically assign an IP address. This is associated with the MAC address (a unique identifier for your network interface, at the ISP. Messages between your computer and the internet, are routed by using network address translation.

It is possible to trace someone to their ISP, but to positively id them requires a court order for getting the information from the ISP.
