doesnt really work like that anymore. used to be all cars with OD were from isle of wight, youre best off looking at where the tax disk was issued, or now all number plates have to have the dealers details on them at the bottom.

In UK the number plate only shows where the car was first registered, eg ?K? or L?xx would both have been registered in Kent. In Germany the letters show where the current owner lives, eg. HH is Hamburg. Other countries I don't know.

The first 2 letters denote the area ie G is Kent (Garden of England) and K is Maidstone (I know! no one said it made any sense!). Look on the DVLA site for a full list
