The start of summer is determined by the summer solstice - the time at which Earth is tilted most towards the sun. It varies by a few hours each year, this year the solstice and start of summer occurs on June 21at 6.06pm and ends on Sept 23 at 9.51am.

The astronomical definition is June 21 but this is a ridiculous definition because you can't define summer like that. Summer in Florida begins well before June. Summer in the high Arctic doesn't begin until July (and it ends two weeks later).

To compromise, meteorologists decided upon a meteorological definition of summer starting on June 1.

summer starts every year within 24 hours of a given time .The beginning of summer is called the summer solstice, every year it falls on June 21st, give or take 6 hours. Then there is the winter solstice, the vernal and the autumnal eqinox.Vernal Equinox is right at Easter. I can explain the rest but it takes too long unless it is really important.

Summer ALMOST ALWAYS starts on June 21st. But you really need to get out there NOW. Get a life. Don't sit in front of a calendar.
