well I don't know what your high school is like so there isn't much I can say. This is good advice for any high school though= if you get lost & don't know where a room is, don't ask kids in the hallway!
I remember my first day of the high school I went to, I was walking in a hall with a friend & she asked a senior where a class was and when I talked to my friend later that day I found out the boy sent her to a class on the complete opposite end of the high school. (and that high school was huge!)
so yeah, if you get lost- ask teachers

get involved in stuff! :) like sports, cheer leading, dance team, choir, stuff like that.

socialize
& if people talk crap, stick up for yourself or else they will just keep doing it. (but I'm sure you already knew that)
& try your best not to appear scared - act confident (even if you aren't) :)

Join a group of young people during the summer who will be attending your school. Then when you get there, you will already have a few friendly faces to see in the hallways.

Your local library has groups you can join...the local YWCA or YMCA will too...call your new school's or town's sports department and join a softball team - or if you don't want to do that, go see some local games. Take a friend.

Four years ago my daughter was nervous about starting high school, but after a week of band camp in August, where she got to know kids from ALL the grades, she felt very comfortable in school, because other band members would say hi in the hallways!

Same thing with her softball team.

Go join something - even if it's the library's Scrabble Challenge for your age group.

Other than that, what specifically are your fears? Getting lost in a BIG school? Call the school up and ask for a tour or a map! (Do it before they close for the summer!)

Worried about how you'll do? Read the required reading books early in the summer, and do the book reports early. Re-read it in late August.

Worried about being popular? Don't worry. You will have roughly the same percent of friends as you do in middle school. And a couple - or even ONE - great friend is worth far more than a bunch of posers and queenie-wanna-be's who only have their hair and nails on their alleged minds.

The best advice I can give you is:
~don't talk trash about anyone. Summer words spread like wildfire.
~don't wear the most outrageous fashions or the most revealing outfits or bathing suits - word gets around, and it's almost impossible to fix a bad reputation.
~JOIN something...either the band, a sports team, JROTC, some community service project. Get involved.

Before you know it, you won't be nervous about anything, because you'll be too busy having fun, learning new things and meeting new people.

Good luck - I'm sure you'll do great!

Don't be scared...everyone always thinks high school is the most horrible place on earth. Seriously hun, maybe the first day it may be a bit scary seeing so many people that are much more older but I'm sure that by the second day you will see that there is not much to be scared of. High school is where you will find some good friends and where you will discover alot about yourself (as cheesy as that may sound it's true). Good luck to you! ^_^

First of all calm down!!!!!!!Panicing and worrying didn't help anybody survive a scary experience. Now, i don't really know what the high school in your area is like, but as far as I know the high school is really great. I wouldn't know for myself because I just got to the middle school this year. I was scared to, but now I'm fine and I am sure that you will be to in the high school. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Take a deep breath. The best thing I found to do is just to be yourself and do the best you can in your classes. High school is not as scare as Hollywood portrays it. Believe me I went through the same thing my freshman year. Just be yourself and don't let others try to make you something you don't ever want to be. If you're into sports, go out for them; if drama is your thing, take the auditions for plays; same with choir, band, Spanish club, etc. You will be fine; you'll make some great friends and really begin to understand who you are and where your life is heading.

There's no reason to be scared of high school unless someone has personally threatened you with harm. If so, let your parents know ASAP!

High school can cause lots of anxiety though. Here's what I did, & tell my kids now. Maybe some of it will help you too.

1. Stand & sit straight with good posture. When you stand up nice & tall you give the impression of confidence. Most people who want to give you a hard time are really bullies who are essentially cowards themselves. They pick on others to try & make themselves feel better. Don't slouch. Then you look like a victim.

2. Make some friends among the Juniors & Seniors. When I did this, I got left alone! When the Seniors graduation, you still have friends among the former Juniors. Do the same your Sophomore year.

3. Smile; really smile & look happy [even if you aren't]. When you smile, even at people you don't know, you create goodwill towards yourself by others. Then if someone should bother you, complete strangers just may jump in on your side.

4. Study. If you study, you will get good grades. Good grades will go a long way to improving your own self confidence which will shine out. They will also serve you well for the rest of your life; especially when it comes time to going to college &/or getting jobs.

5. Pay attention to personal grooming. Don't overdo your make-up if you choose to wear it, but keep it in moderation. Keep your hair nice & shiny & clean. Wear deodorant. Wear clean clothes. Don't go for weird hairstyles or lots of tattoos & piercings. They may work for you now, but they won't in the future when you're trying to find work.

6. Even if you know all the answers, you don't have to always be the one to answer! No one likes a know-it-all. But do answer some questions. Again, you don't want to put yourself completely forward, but you don't want to appear sullen or helpless either.

7. Don't stick to just one 'type' of friends. Make friends of lots of different people. Not only will you be a more well rounded person, you will have lots of resources for the different issues that will come up throughout high school.

8. Don't worry about being popular. Those that are constantly worried about not fitting in tend to stick out like sore thumbs. Just be yourself. Anyone who doesn't like you or want to be friends are missing out on a great opportunity to get to know a wonderful & intelligent & beautiful person! It's their loss!

I'm speaking from very personal experience in high school & since, including 9 years of college & 12 years in the work force. If you would like to chat, you can reach me through YA!

Hope this helps. ;)

Remember that every body is in the same boat you are. This is the best years of your life. My daughter was in your place last year. Be your self, find people that you have things in common with. Make sure you get involved in clubs and after school activities. You will be fine.

try not to worry about it so much, even though it seems like a big step now when you settle in you'll be fine, everyone feels the same and everyone is in the same situation.

if you've got friends that are going to the same high school talk to them and try to stick together but don't forget to make new friends as well.

try not to worry so much once the first few days are over with you'll be fine...good luck!

go to the school before the first day. get a feel for the layout. find your classes if you have your schedule. being comfortable with where you're going will help a lot. talk to any older friends or relatives who can tell you about their experiences. choose an outfit that makes you feel gorgeous on the first day and breathe.

Don't worry about it. I have been out for a couple years and trust me, highschool is no big deal.

Make some friends (or keep the ones that come to HS with you) and stick with them for 4 years. Don't let the bullies and the higher-caste kids bother you too much.
