1. If y varies inversely as x and y = 25 when x = 2, find y when x = 5.
So y = k/x, where k is a constant.
25 = k/2, so k = 50.
So equation is y = 50 /x, so y = 10 when x =5.

2. Find sin 54° to the nearest thousandth.
= .809 to nearest thousandth using calculator.
If you are not to use a calculator, then you would have to use an infinite series to get answer.

3. Use I = Prt to find r if I = $370, P = $2000, and t = 3 years

r = i/(Pt) = 370/(2000*3) = .061666 = 6.17 %.

1) If x goes up from 2 to 5, then y will go down by a factor of 2/5. 25 * 2/5 = 10

2) From excel .809 to the nearest thousandth

3) r = I/(Pt) = 370/(2000*3) = 370/6000 = 37/600 = .061666....

or 6 and 1/6 percent.

1) If x + y = 27 and they vary inversely, if could be argued that when x = 5 then y must equal 22.

2) According to my calculator, the sin of 54 is 0.809016994 so to the thousandth it would be 0.809.

3) if 370 = (2000) * (r) * (3 yrs) then the rate = 6.1667%, assuming no compounding of interest.

1. y=k/x => 25=k/2 => k=50
So y=50/x => y=50/5 = 10

2. sin54 = 0.809 (to the nearest thousandth)

3.
I = Prt
370 = 2000(r)(3)
r = 0.0617 or 6.17%

the first one, not sure the equation. I will write out equation.

2. 0.809 (or 0.809016994) just pick to thousandth (10^-3)
3. $370 = 2000*3*(1/100) where i=% (1/100)
i ~6.1667%

If your #3 has different setup (compound interest) it may be different answer.
