In their natural environment, lions can be killed by a number of different animals.
Water buffalo, which lions hunt, sometimes turn the tables and gang up on a lone lion. They have also been filmed killing lion cubs if their herd comes across some. In the Ngororo crater there is currently an inbalance in lion and buffalo numbers and the buffalo are actively killing lions by ganging up on them and also killing cubs.
Hyenas will gang up on a lone lion or lioness. Male lion's major jobs are keeping hyenas away. Lone females are often killed by hyenas.
Elephants will kill a lion if they manage to encircle or corner a lion.
Lions often die from starvation after being seriously injured by getting kicked or gored by their prey such as zebra and wildebeast.
Crocodiles can and do kill lions coming to water to drink.

Hi, Adult lions have no natural predators except from us. hyenas will kill lion cubs or sick, injured and weak adult lions.
Human poaching is a problem for lions. It has been estimated that in the 1960's, poachers were responsible for approximately 20,000 lion deaths per year in Serengeti National Park.
Animals which CAN hurt or even kill a lion but only if one gets too close for comfort or if provoked into an attack are:- Elephants when protecting their young. Crocodiles if a lion happens to be in the wrong water hole at the wrong time. Snakes that are poisionous, but usually it is only the young lions or cubs which get bitten as adult lions seem to know to leave them alone.

Actually there are a number of animals that could kill the "King of Beasts" in a one-on-one confrontation. I am going to rule out creatures of the sea as this confrontation is ridiculous. Some of these other confrontations will never happen either but at least they are land animals.
1) Polar Bear..........The lion would attack and the bear would take on swipe with it's big paw and 6 inch claws........Dead Lion.
2) Nile Croc.......Lion goes to watering hole to drink.......Big crog grabs him by the head........All over for the lion.
3) Elephant.........Don't even have to explain that confrontation.
4) Hippo.......Don't need to elaborate....
5) This one is questionable.......but I think a big Anaconda could actually do in a lion......There strength is incredable and once they get a hold of the lion.......It is done. Of course this will never happen, and the key is.........the anaconda has to get a hold of the lion......
6) Tiger........No competition
7) Ostrich.........one kick and the lion is done, although, if that kick does not connect, the ostrich is done......
8) Man........How sad is that.........for what reason?
9) Rhino........Although they seem timid.......Threaten one, and you will see their true side......
All of these animals either have a size advantage on the lion or, in the case of man, a gun.
Here are some creatures that could also kill a lion, but would probably also die in the attempt.
- Many poisonous snake venoms are lethal to a lion, the cobra, etc.
- Komodo Dragon........I am sure the lion would kill the dragon, but the infection cause by the Komodo bites to the lion would also cause his demise.
- The smallest of creatures are probably the most lethal..........viruses
- Male Silverback Gorilla......Awesome Strength.....Although I think the lion would inflict serious, if not mortal wounds as well.
- Not a fair fight here, but I think a clan of angry or threatened Chimpanzees could also kill a lone lion. They fight like man, only with an advantage.......In their case, intelligence and numbers.
In a battle with a lion, there are many different creatures that could get lucky and win.......Lions are not truly the un-invincable creatures that they are made up to be. However, they are intimidating, at the top of the food chain, and a force to be reckoned with.........
I would not stand a chance.......................................

Man is possibly the animal that can kill or hunt lions. About the people who don't get killed while on some filming for channels like NGC. I think that they do the filming very carefully. They spend months and years to shoot a 60 minute documentary. They study the moves of the animals and then film it accordingly. Probably they film it when the lion is full in the stomach and does not feel hungry enough to hunt ! or eat !

So few people are saying Rhino. You do understand not even an entire pride of lions can not take down a Rhino. They weight up to 5,500 lbs, Run 40 Mph, and have 1 to 2 horns that can be over 3 feet in length. Rhino's even though they are herbivores are the "Quiet Kings of the Safari."

Another lion may try to kill a lion, especially cubs that are not their own. When in danger zebras and elephants can kill lions by kicking in self defence. No other animal will go out of it's way to try to kill a lion.
Wolves don't live in Africa, however jackals, painted dogs and hyenas do. They will not hunt a lion under normal circumstances.

In real terms, only a human animal has the ability to kill a lion.
Hmm, a lion could choke to death on a mouse I suppose!

A lion was walking through the jungle and came to a gorilla. "Who's the king of the jungle?" the lion demanded to know. "You are, oh mighty lion," replied the gorilla.
Then the lion met a gazelle and again asked, "Who's the king of the jungle?" "You are, oh mighty lion," replied the gazelle.
Then the lion met an elephant, and demanded to know, "Who's the king of the jungle?"
The elephant picked up the lion with his trunk, spun him around in the air, bashed him against the ground several times, and then sat on him.
When the elephant got up and walked away, the lion called out after him, "Just because you don't know the answer, you don't have to get all bent out of shape!"
