Throughout the years consumers have benefited from products created by NASA for the space program.
Examples:
- Kidney dialysis machines
- CAT and MRI scanners
- Insulation used in cars to dampen road noise
- Water purification systems
- Cordless power tools
- Aluminum foil
as well as some 1400 other inventions.

Just because we don't hear much from NASA in the media doesn't mean they are doing nothing. It's the media making you think NASA is worthless, don't listen to them.

Research and Development are necessary to the development of any society. Some smaller nations do pretty well at only implementing technology from other countries, but this is a dangerous path. Since the colonial days, American development of technology has returned dividends in trade, jobs, quality of living, and safety.
Should some science and engineering being done by NASA be funneled to private industry or universities? I believe we have examples in both directions. I would hate to see NASA removed from the U.S. technological toolbox.
Should more projects be shared with other nations. I would leave that one to the experts.

You must be kidding. Our space programs have benefited our society immensely with their discoveries that filter down to us consumers. We have software scheduling systems to help in manufacturing operations and supply chains. Air quality monitors, semiconductor cubing for medical imaging, virtual reality, water purification systems, a chip to allow digital imaging for breast cancer biopsys, laser angioplasty, home security systems, smoke detectors, programmable pacemakers, freeze-dry technology and sports bras all come from NASA projects—and there are many many more..

Nasa programs exist to support the intelligence services and the military......have you ever noticed that the shuttle flys with the cargo bay doors open, and the cargo bay facing the earth? The bay is loaded with cameras and sensors. They also do lots of research work on advanced aircraft projects.
