What I don't get is that there are plenty of youth groups and community service clubs out there that try to do what we do, but we are singled out as nerds and stuff. Its a great orginization but for some reason it's different, is it the uniform (we don't like them anymore than anyone else )? Is it the goody two shoes image? The whole gay thing?

Why do people hate us so much?

And I'd say that I'm at least stronger than 95% of the people saying these things because of scouting. Which is sorta ironic that the reason they think we are losers or nerds, is also the reason that I am in much better shape than them.

I see your point, but at the same time if I were an parent would not want a man going camping with my daughter. The guy can be a great guy or whatever, but no way would I be ok with it. And also the military has the same thing we do, don't ask don't tell (maybe not he best but it works) .

To the person with the kids that quit:

Yeah cub scouts don't do anything, you have to weather the storm to get to the good stuff. Last year I planned a trip comletley by myself for our troop to Wyoming to go horseback riding, and this year I am helping to plan a trip to Glacier National Park.

Who's "everyone"? My dad's been a scout leader for 30 years and has my support. He has turned many scouts into Eagles and has helped countless people in the community with his volunteer work in this.
Some scout packs do indeed have some bad apples, but those are few compared to the BSA as a whole.

Keep being the best scout you can be and ignore the snide comments.

Scouting isn't what it used to be, at least not in my area. My brother made Eagle and enjoyed it. My kids spent 1 year in cub scouts and quit, I allowed them to because it wasn't about the kids anymore it was about popularity and money.
When I was a kid the boys made their own pinewood derby cars. I made my kids make their own, they were the only kids who did. I was giving money every week, but the pack never did anything or went anywhere.

because 1. they are a Private group that gets government funding...
2. because they are a Private group they can chose who and who not to let into their groups (no atheists and no homosexuals)

i agree that it is a nice organization.. however if they are going to receive government funding then it should be treated like a government program, meaning no discrimination.

It is an ideal breeding ground for pedophiles that are put in charge. Better to have a priest oversee the children... no wait...
