I upgraded a while back to Vista home premium X64 and haven't experienced any issues at all and I'm quite happy.
Many people think its Microsoft's fault the manufacturers of their printers and such dont have a compatible driver... and think a service pack will fix it. lol

My experience has had more upsides than downsides. Sure, there are some things that aren't compatible with it, yet. But patches will come out to fix those, and some have been worked out already.
Access is pretty easy in Vista. You can switch the Start menu to an XP or "older" look, depending on what you like best, or even leave it on the new Vista menu, which is also pretty easy to use and get around in.
Gaming has been alright on it, but you have to do some things (updates, etc.) manually. Other than that, my Vista gaming experience has been pretty sweet.
Visually, Vista is nice.
At times, yes, it can be a memory hog, but that can be solved, and that's not a reason not to get it. Who, these days, doesn't upgrade their computer with more memory in time, anyway? Unless you're just going to be using a computer for writting or office purposes, you're probably going to be adding as much memory to it as you can.
Vista, right now, is reliable for many things, but it could still use a few more updates and the like to make older programs and hardware work with it. If you're not patient and able to wait for patches to fix some things, I wouldn't recommend running out and buying Vista. If you would like a good, stable, new and reliable OS, then you should try it. Just make sure to keep your XP disk or older OS restore disk handy just in case you don't like it. Some do, some don't.
I've had it since Feb. 2nd, and I can't complain a bit about it. The only people I'd say anything to are the companies that aren't updating certain bits and pieces to make their products compatible with Vista.
Is it worth it? I'd say yes. But that's just me. You'd have to try it out for yourself to see if you truly like it or not.

I recently purchased a new system with Vista on it. Although it looks completely different, it just took a short time to get used to. I've not had any software problems yet. I do have a printer that wasn't supposed to be compatible but it works. After using it for a while and getting used to the new look and feel, I'm quite happy with it. Everything I had connected to my Window XP system is now connected to my Vista system and everything works fine, cameras, external hard drive, Dymo Label Maker.........no problems at all.

Very reliable, but there are still issues with other program compatibility and hardware drivers. If there is no compelling reason to upgrade, wait until sp1
