Anyway, there's 3 of us. We are all going into 8th grade, and are working (teaching) 3 & 4 year olds. We have 10 kids in our class. 2 girls and 8 boys! Anyway so today we didn't have a teacher, or an adult in the room helping us. We didn't need one either. But at the end of VBS one of the head volunteers came up to us and told us that tommorow we would have a teacher. They think that one of us is going into 9th grade, and they let her be the teacher for today. Does anyone think that this is unfair??? I do!

Sounds like you did a good job but maybe the church has rules for it. Just talk to the new teacher and tell him/her how you did and maybe they'll back off and let you do it your way.

I have been the Director of VBS at our church numerous times. I also go to a church that has a Policy in place for the protection of both the children and those teaching/caring for the children. Our policy states that there must be an adult present for any setting involving children under the age of 18. We also require a minimum of 2 people in each class. One of these people must be an adult and a youth may be a helper. While all 3 of you are likely responsible, caring, and experienced with children, if there were to be any type of incident, accident, or problem, because all of you are minors, there could be serious liability issues for you, your VBS directors, and your church. While you may not feel the decision of the adult in charge is fair, you must realize that he/she has a responsibility to the parents of the children in your class and to the liability/legal issues of your church. What you are doing, volunteering to work with the little children, is a wonderful ministry to your church and to God. Many things in life are not fair, but don't let that prevent you from doing the best you can do while following the rules. Focus on the children and how you can be a good role model for them. Accept what you can't change. Continue to follow God's leading in your life, you are a blessing to these little children.

Well, according to most state laws, there has to be an adult present for even church activities. This isn't an issue of fairness, but an issue of the law. They can't have someone under 18 in most states alone with a large group of children because someone under 18 is a minor as well and must be supervised.

Maybe the 3 of you can discuss it and take turns being the "teacher" or take the activities - bible story, craft & outdoor games and split them up each one teaching one of the areas each day.
Remember your there to teach the kids about God, whoever is in charge should not matter because God is over them!

I have thought at VBS too.Maybe the teacher will just supervise. Do what you do the best you can maybe then they will see that your can handle the responsibility on your own.Its no big deal.

In all your whining about who gets to play teacher, you're missing the point. You're there to teach these little critters about Jesus. All of this whining is only showing how much you do need a teacher. If you're teaching children about God, the first thing you need to do is set a good example. Being petty is not doing that.
