Assuming the ethernet cable is coming from a alive connection , why would you need to hook up a router in the end of if? You probably meant a switch, which will allow you to convert one ethernet cable in several outputs. Then configuration then will be internet---> router --->wall---->ethernet cable---->switch --->then out of the switch you will have several outputs, depending of the switch model . You can get one as cheap as $7 bucks on ebay

okay i got your idea. I'm not sure there is an existing cable like that for an ethernet cable, what I know is a small spliter box for an ethernet cable, one that is similar to a phone spliter, but bigger ports. But basically yes you can do that, no problem, The only catch is this. If your total download speed is lets say, 10Mbps, if you use a spliter on two computers, each PC would only get 5Mbps. unlike if get a router, the speed you get from the router is equal on both PCs, not divided.

a router can not be used to connect PCs, you need to use a hub or a switch. routers connect networks. hubs and switches create networks. i could go into more detail describing the ISO OSI model, but you can do a google search if you really care to know. hubs are dirt cheap and if your only connecting 2 computers, thats the best way to go. if your looking at a larger network, a switch would be recommended

I'm sure that they sell splitters just like your picture only for eternet cables. Hubs and routers are more pricy.
P.S. The splitters are very hard to find.

i personally think it is a bad idea to split an ethernet cafe, it dilutes the connectivity.
It is better to have a hub or router.

You can, but I wouldn't recommend it. Routers are very cheap...if you just need to connnect computers together, you can just get a hub.
