*Click the volume icon on the system tray: make sure it is up and not to mute.

*Make sure any speaker wires you have are plugged into the computer, the electric outlet, and each other as needed.

*Reinstall sound drivers.

Small chance, but you may have a blown audio component on your motherboard if none of these helps. In that case, purchase an add-in PCI sound card (they are cheap), and install it following the directions.

Good luck.

Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Device Manger

This should provide you a list of all devices currently attached to your computer, and their status. If they are not working, the display should show that. You can also run a diagnostic to figure-out why it's not working.

If your sound card and speakers are working correctly, try installing new drivers, check for loose wires, or see if the volume is turned down. I am, of course assuming they are turned on. :D

If you've updated your driver recently and the sound worked before that and doesn't now, then try to Uninstall the latest driver and restore it to the one before that. This happened to me about two months ago. I installed the new driver, the sound stopped working, I restored it back to the old driver and it worked again.

If that doesn't work, do as the above suggestions have said and check connections, etc. If nothing works, you may need a new sound card.

download the drivers for your speakers. look up either your computer manufacturer or speaker if they are external on the internet and you should be able to find free drivers for your operating system. good luck!
