I am a beginner at Salsa but would desperately like to take lessons in London. All my salsa-loving- friends have unfortunately left London and my remaining friends don't like it. I would love to learn but am afraid to go on my own, but it looks like I will have to.

Does anyone know of a friendly venue where I can just turn up on my own in London?

Try http://www.dancesport.uk.com It is a ballroom website but they have a good on-line directory for dance studios. Most studios that teach ballromm also teach salsa.

Type in 'Lynda's List' into your browser then go to the classes section . It will give you the contact numbers of loads of different dance classes including Salsa. If you are feeling nervous, then just ring the organiser and ask if you can turn up alone and explain that you are afraid. - the odds are s/he will be happy to meet you at the door on your first night if they know you're a bit shy. The dance world is very friendly once you get in and give it a go. Good luck

Sure! Nearly all of the La Tasca restaurants have salsa evenings and its very informal and for beginners. Just check out http://www.londondiary.ltd.uk/latascachw.htm for times and venues.

Also, you could try Salsa! Restaurant and Bar in Tottenham Court Road..... again a very relaxed and fun atmosphere where you don't have to pair up if you don't want to! Enjoy!

I'm a salsa dancer too, but not in London.

The following sites should help you find a class nearby:

http://www.cubangroove.com/ (this is the website for the current Salsa World Champions, they are running classes in London and may have one near you)

I delight in ceroc - google seek for ceroc golf equipment - that's relaxing! Or attempt Lindy Hop in case you like companion dancing socially. attempt looking up the London Swing Dance club which has activities at th one hundred club, Oxford street, so I understand.
