im looking for a forum or a tutorial on how to overclock. and what exactly it is. i know the bare basics but would like to know more. im about to build my first box so im kinda excited to tinker with it. im not a complete n00b. i just havent really read much on overclocking. heres the parts that ive ordered that will be here tomorrow. should and or can i overclock the processor, ram, and gpu?

You are going to get very little overclocking that processor. These Athlon 64 X2s don't do to well at speeds past 3.0Ghz, and since the one you bought is already running at 2.8Ghz, there is not much to be gained. That said, if you want to try it look at the forums others suggested, or feel free to email me when you get it set up and I can explain and walk you through the process.

A desktop needs extra fans when you overclock. Your lap has all it can do to handle heat issues especially when you play games on it. You would run the risk of frying your processor to overclock your lap. It won't take long either if you are a hard core gamer and laps are not designed to add extra fans. A Desktop is the best choice for that.

BTW, you'll probably want to stick to overlocking your CPU and RAM only- at least to start. Most gaming graphics cards ship factory-overclocked. Attempting to push the GPU further often requires specialized cooling hardware, prior experience and certainly voids any warranty.

i think its where you computer clocks over its speed and gets slow
