I did!!! Except I was not quite 38 weeks yet and the doctor told me I should have my second son over the weekend (it was a long Easter weekend last year)...Needless to say I didnt and had to go in to see him after the weekend..which put me at 38 weeks and 1 day...he then stretched my membranes and told me to be at the hospital by 7pm...needless to say I was in labor within an hour and had my son 6 hours later!!!
But go ahead and get excited...it cant possibly be that much longer for you!!! Congrats!!!
(yes I was dialated to a 3 and a half and had been 100% effaced for a month!)

With my 3rd pregnancy I began to dilate and efface 6 weeks before the actual delivery. 3 weeks in a row, my doctor said, "The next time I see you should be at the hospital." I was 100% effaced and 3-4 cm dilated for a couple weeks. Both he and I got exasperated each time I showed up at my weekly appointment. When I did go into labor it began suddenly in the middle of the night with my water breaking at 2:45 AM, it progressed quickly and she was born at 7:18 AM despite being in a posterior position (needed forceps delivery) with the cord wrapped around her neck. Without those complications, I think I may have had her in the car before getting to the hospital! Contractions can feel similar to menstrual cramps. If the cramping comes and goes on a regular basis, they are likely beginning contractions. Full-term is between 37-42 weeks, so you will go into labor soon.

Be sure to let your doctor know if you are feeling anything that feels like a menstral cramp. There could be another reason for this pain. It could be the begining of labor, but you may want to check with your doctor or midwife just to be on the safe side.

Yes I was 2 cm dialated and 90% effaced for my whole last month and then the doctor induced me two days before my due date. Dr's never can tell you right on but if you are having contractions then you will probably have the baby soon.

I had horrible "menstrual cramps" with my last child. Having had 4 other children I knew what labor felt like and that wasn't it! After about 10 hours of the pain I couldn't take it anymore and went to the doctor who sent me straight to the hospital and I delivered my daughter about 2 hours later. Good luck and congratulations there will be a little one in your arms before you know it!

Sounds like you're ready to pop the baby out. Early labor can last for a long time and you might not feel the classic Hollywood "Grip your stomach and know it's time" contractions. With my first I was in early labor for a week and didn't have a clue.

Well, with my first child, I started having really bad menstrual-like cramps when I went into labour (and I had not began to dilate or efface either). They gradually became stronger and more frequent. I had my son 28 hours after I felt my first "menstrual cramp".
Sounds like it shouldn't be too much longer.
Good luck!

WELL THE FACT THAT YOU ARE 100% EFFACED MEANS THAT YOU ARE JUST GOING TO KEEP DIALATING. I HIGHLY DOUBHT THAT YOU WILL MAKE IT UNTIL YOUR NEXT APPT. THE CRAMPS COULD BE THE START OF LABOR. HAVE YOU HAD ANY BLOODY SHOW, OR LOST YOUR MUCOUS PLUG AT ALL? ARE THE CRAMPS CONSISTENT, OR ON AND OFF? SOUNDS LIKE YOUR BABY IS COMING VERY SOON.....GET YOUR BAGS PACKED! GOOD LUCK!

It sounds like you are in labor! Is this your first baby? If so, it could take a while... the maximum should be 24-36 hours. If you start to get uncomfortable, try a warm shower or your breathing techniques. You also want to start timing! Good luck and best of health to you and your baby!
