I live about two hours north of Orlando, in the area that we affectionately like to refer to as "the real Florida"...campgrounds with real rivers, not manmade ones....I live just north of Gainesville....world class diving springs and underwater caves about 30 minutes away. Swannee River, and the weather is much more "moderate" up here. Orlando is a great place to live, but I don't know how you'd like the traffic. Areas like Sanford, Apopka and Kissimmee are "out of downtown", but you'll still get the Disney overflow.

That is really the nice thing about Florida. If you like the beach, sailing, etc., then the Orlando/Daytona/Ormond Beach is probably the way to go, or you can look west to Tampa/St Petersburg area. But, if you like forests, outdoor activities, hiking, call me biased but I think it is just a bit prettier up here. Taxwise, try to find a semi-rural county that is near a metropolitan area. They tend to have better schools (safer, etc), but are close enough you can drive to be near the action. You should know that the state Legislature has been called into special session by our new Governor in order to force them to cut property tax levels, so it could be in the near future that taxes will actually improve statewide. Hope it's a good move for you. Feel free to email me if you want any information. Native Floridians are an endangered species here, but there ARE a few of us left.

There is no state income tax in Florida. There is 6.5% sales tax (higher in some counties). Gas taxes are a little higher than other states, but we also have a lot of Toll roads (espcecially around orlando) .
Property taxes may be high (depends on what you are used to.) In Orlando the Median price of a home is about $250,000. Annual property tax on that would be about $3100, but there is new tax law being made so that will likley go down some.

Polk County is a county in between Orlando and Tampa. The county is really growing and becoming very developed. Our sales tax is 7%

Local newspaper website: www.theledger.com

If you have children the school boards website is:
www.polk-fl.net

Polk County is home to Publix Supermarkets Headquarters and warehouses and we have Geico Insurance. Both of those companies are great to work for.

I think it's 7%.

Try looking for homes in Winter Park. It's the northeast neighbor of Orlando, and a really nice area. Sutton Place apartments (I used to live there...) are decent. Close to Orlando, but far enough away to not deal with too much tourist traffic around home base.

I recommend Winter Park. :) Good luck! Also, no state taxes in FL!

i might conform to a plan that consists of keeping new primaries in the two states. inspite of each little thing, that replaced into the unique purpose of the DNC rules. The Dems did not prefer to disenfranchise all people. they only needed the primaries to happen later, extremely than quicker. i'm much less gentle with any plan that consists of seating the delegates based on the early time-honored outcomes. There may well be no thank you to make your ideas up what the relatively proportion could have been, if applicants had campaigned and individuals relatively thought their votes might count selection. yet I do agree that there is a extra perfect case for seating the FL delegation than the MI delegation, because of the fact a minimum of in FL the two have been on the poll.

Every county is different on the sales tax. Lake County is 7%, Volusia is 6.5%. Not sure about the others. As for Websites. Go to the chamber commerce for that county or town your interested in. They give lot's of info.

I don't really know about taxis but the lynx bus is much cheaper. It's only $1.50 for adults and $0.75 for under 19 year olds(week days). It will take you anywhere, just ask the bus driver (before it departs) or call the station during these times: Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Weekend hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reach them by calling: 407-841-LYNX (5969).
Thats all i know about transportation.
