I am always saddened at the sight of a handicapped toilet( the politically correct label would be flush and refill challenged). I always wonder what led to this unfortunate state. Was the cleaning brush too rigid or the plunger too forceful? Did it become unhinged when the lid became loose? Was the chlorine cleaner not user friendly and perhaps caused chemical trauma? Did it develop 'lazy flush' syndrome? Was the flush valve the problem with this porcelain throne? Did it not get the royal treatment it deserved? Did the flapper stop flapping? Were the washers washed up. So many questions, so few answers. Yet, now and then, when you enter a restroom and see a forlorn handicapped(I'm starting to cry, I get so emotional.) toilet over in the corner with no one to comfort it I am not afraid to get a bit cheeky with it, or to sit down and let the feelings flow. I hope this does not leak out. You will keep this our little secret won't you? Try to keep a lid on it. They may be handicapped to some, but to me they have won the superbowl. Wow. That felt good. I am drained.

it isn't REALLY ok to use a handicapped toilet---it's just it would be rather stupid to hire someone to stand in the bathroom just to keep people out of the handicapped toilet....however, if someone came into the bathroom in a wheel chair and I was using the only stall THEY could get into---I'd feel pretty embarrassed to come out of there.... People still pull into handicapped parking spots all the time...and as far as using the bathroom stall, well, some people just have no shame. HOWEVER, remember, there ARE some people who HAVE handicapping conditions who do not LOOK handicapped at all...(but they use the hang tag on their cars)----I sure hope a time won't come when people have to wear a hang tag ON THEIR CLOTHING.....

The advantage of the parking space is its close proximity to the front door of the building it's in front of, making it easier for handicapped people to get from their cars to the building safely.

The advantage of the toilet on the other hand, is its functionality in allowing handicapped people to do their business. There isn't any reason they can't wait in line to do their business like everyone else.

The law only applies to parking spaces. However, if you are sitting in a porta potty without your handicapped parking permit prominently displayed, fasten your seat belt and get ready for the ride of your life as the tow truck whisks you away, with or without the paperwork being completed. Personally, I wouldn't stand for it.

Because generally people take less time in the bathroom. If you are parked, you are usually parked for a while. Which is why I think that there should be "quick parking" for people who have small errands that only take 15 minutes. I hate spending more time looking for a parking spot them I do in the store.

It IS illegal to use a handicapped toilet if you don't have a handicapped penis tag. I wear mine at all times in case I am asked to present proof.

p.s. LittleBarb,
Why would you feel embarrassed if you were not handicapped and were poopin' in the HC stall when someone in a wheelchair came in to the restroom? If you WERE handicapped, they'd still have to wait just like anyone else. Or you could just tell them the other stalls were taken when you first came in. That's what I always tell them. It works every time.

Besides, I like all the extra room in the HC stall. It gives me room for my TV, magazine rack, bookshelves, and refrigerator.

Because if we are having a potty emergency - that IS a handicap at the moment. If nobody else is in there at the time that needs it & the other stall is being used - and you are about to sh*t your pants from a stomach virus - pretty sure that qualifies you to go ahead and use that stall rather than...well..the alternative isn't pretty.

Pretty hard to enforce the use of stalls in a public washroom. Also pretty hard to get people to pay for permits to use a certain stall in a washroom.

Although I'm sure the government would love to make it law that you have to buy a permit to use handicap stalls, it would never work.

Good question...have always wondered that myself. I use the handicap toilets when I have my children with me cuz the stalls are big enough for them to go in there with me. That and the changing table is in there as well.
