The only person I have ever done that with are only my own parents because I want them to be around a long time and I did it all through my childhood.
I know smokers know it is unhealthy and an addiction. I am a chemical engineer so I know the properties of what exactly is in them also. However, everyone does have the right to do with their body what they wish, it is not my place to tell them what to do and not what to do.

I'm a non-smoker and I'd NEVER say that...maybe because I used to smoke a long time ago myself. It's hard to kick - took me awhile - I KNEW it was unhealthy - just had to really want to do it..takes a lot of mental strength to kick it. I did eventually, but I don't judge others that haven't. I'd never go back to it now though because I truly felt 10 years younger once I did kick it. I have family members that still smoke - not too many left but a few. They are courteous and don't smoke indoors where little ones could inhale the second-hand smoke - they go outside away from everyone else. We don't hastle them and they don't blow their smoke into our lungs. It's just a matter of respect from both sides.

I only tell that to my bf. I don't have the audacity to tell complete strangers that. I tell him because I don't like it when he smokes and he quit for a while, but started again. I'm hoping that he'll at least get tired of me saying it and will either quit smoking all together or just quit smoking around me.

I don't know that people say that anymore, they let the laws talk for them. I would think they are merely trying to say to you to be courteous and don't blow smoke in their face, and especially when they are eating, but it comes out "you know that's unhealthy"?

I agree...I think to myself "WOW Capt. Obvious...thank you for saving me from myself"....but seriously if i don't die from lung cancer, then i have to die from something else...and what if i get old, those people have way more problems than i do, I'm just consolidating death into one activity....no prostate cancer, heart attacks, high cholesterol, alzheimers, arthritis, poor hearing, sight, and memory, senility....hmmm, i think i'll take just the one lung cancer, thanks! And plus, smoking relaxes me, i'd much rather live a short relaxed life, than a long stressful one, anyday!
