Yes I did. We were very poor and although during my younger years we had meals, we went without alot and during some tougher times, there wasn't even food to eat.

Grew up the poor kid in a moderate to rich area. Been working since I was 15, doing odd job babysitting etc before that. Though I had a roof over my head and food in my belly I understood to be thankful as there were others with less...though I couldn't exact imagine what that would be like I did understand the concept.

I think I understood it a little better than most since I was raised by my grandparents who discussed the Depression and took me to places where poverty was evident. My grandmother also always was making sure I knew it was my duty to always give to people who were poorer than me.

I don't think that children understand either poverty or riches. I know I didn't. Children accept the situation that they are in.

We were very poor. I never had new clothes until I started working at the age of 14 and bought them myself. No heat upstairs. But, I never knew it until I started going to friends houses that actually had money.

I did not. Not because we were rich, but because I had what I needed. I never looked at what other kids had and envied them.

I had a roof over my head, food in my belly and a very loving mother who worked her azz off to support us.
