Oh, you'll know!! I was amazed at how much there was!! Mine actually broke when I was sitting on the toilet... so I got up, called the dr., got dressed, put on my shoes. By the time I reached the front door my shoes were full of water!! I "squished" my way to the car :)
Good luck!

If you are in doubt about whether yours have broken -- it can be a gush, a trickle or something in between, often it flows heavier when you are lying down as the baby's head can block the opening when you are standing up -- you need to talk to your doctor or go to the hospital right. Once your water breaks you need to be under care to prevent infection (whatever you do, don't take a bath) and if you don't go into labor on your own within 24 hours they will induce you. Although your water breaking is a good sign your baby will be born soon.

Despite it being a popular sitcom scene, most women's waters don't break before they go into labor. And some even have their water's broken by their doctor once they are in labor at the hospital. I was an exception.

When my water broke, it was 4 a.m. and I got up to go to the bathroom because there was a trickle of liquid and I thought something might be going on (by the way, I was 4 days passed by due date at this point) . I came back to bed, put a towel down, laid down and said to my husband, "I think my water just broke but I'm not sure," and right in that moment I heard a pop and felt a gush of fluid. Then I was sure!

We went right to the hospital and my son was born about 9 hours later.

Good luck to you!

You will know. I was always worried that how would I know if my water breaks. I had a lot of mucus discharging 2 days before I delivered and I was always keeping an eye but its quite different from that. I was sleeing when my water broke with a gush and I woke up instantly. It is like peeing but the difference is that you have no control over it. It just comes out with a gush. Just be relax and you will know when it breaks.

It doesn't sound crazy at all, i was wondering this too. We are 6 months pregnant. A good site to find answers on is www.pregnancy.org and one you should sign up for as well is www.babyzone.com they have both helped me a lot throughout our pregnancy.
If you get a gush of fluid all of a sudden, like they show in movies, is one way to know. Another way is if you have a slow but continuous flow of liquid. The slow flow means there is a tear apposed to just breaking and gushing.

You will know when your water breaks. There could be a gush followed by a constant trickle of fluid or just a constant trickle of fluid, it will have a sweet flowery smell to it. Remember though that your water may not break on its own. However, if it does, be sure to note the color of it so you can let the doctor know, if it's anything but clear call your doctor immediately.

I have heard you will know if your water breaks because it is almost like it scares you when it happens. It is not always a gush of fluid. Sometimes it is and you know it is not you peeing on yourself. Somtimes it comes out in trickles. If you sit down and slouch back a little and more comes out, then your water has broken. Sometimes it has an odor and sometimes it doesn't. It should be a clear color; however, if it is greenish or darker, it might be because of maconium in the amniotic fluid. If all else fails, ask your doc.

Usually there is a plenty of water in uterus during pregnancy. this keeps the baby movements easy.
this water breaks at the time of delivery. if it breaks early then one has to deliver child early.
If you have plenty of water then you are always sure that you have water break because 2-3 liters of water comes out as sudden gush. and if you are standing then you can feel your both legs drenched in water and if you are in bed then bed gets totally wet.
but most of the time this things happens in hospital settings as one has labour pain starts, withing an hour she is in hospital and then membrane breaking is done in hospital. rarely water breaks happens in home.

My wife soaked a cotton bath towel on the 20 minute ride to the hospital. You'll know. All of the answers above mine are basically on the ball.

I felt like I had just peed on myself. I had just come from the bathroom and was folding laundry and all of the sudden I was literally soaked. I changed my clothes and as soon as I stood up again, I was soaked again... 8 hours later my son was born.
