Preferably, it would be nice to have someone who could do both, however, if I were to choose between one with a great sense of humor, or one who is serious all the time - I would choose the one with a great sense of humor. Why? Well, because sometimes being serious all the time can get you depressed, and I believe that humor is a God-given attribute that allows us to deal with things that could be emotionally debilitating.
Don't misunderstand someone who has the ability to make you laugh all the time as someone who is not a deep thinking. I, for one, am quite philosophical, but I also have a very broad sense of humor, and I employ it on a daily basis. I even laugh at myself. Why not? Why must we be so serious all the time.
Of course, there are times when it is inappropriate to joke and laugh, and a person with wisdom will know the difference.
Furthermore, I also know how to listen and understand people's dilemmas and situations, and I have been told I am a great listener, but one thing I am thankful to be blessed with is a great sense of humor.
Life would just be too dull otherwise. Besides, sometimes what appears to be deep - is just muddy (unclear).
Choose the best friend with the ability to make you laugh. You will be happy you did.

A best friend who understands. I would rather have a friend who could help me back on my feet in bad situations than one who just makes life as a huge joke all the time.

I know both are important, but for in a best friend, who you can turn too when your down or need some uplifting, humor is more important. i think your partner would be better suited for the deep part. On the other hand, someone who knows you on a deeper level can probably really make you laugh.

Right now I would want a best friend who is hilarious and makes me laugh all the time.
(My funniest friend moved to the UK about 2 years ago. boo hoo :( Things are just not so funny anymore without him)
But I do appreciate those other sorts of friends too.

Well my best friend can make me laugh since she knows me pretty well but the best thing about her is she understands me better than anyone (even myself it seems at times) and is so deep in her thinking. She knows what is the best scenario and can lead me the correct way when I make mistakes.

Someone who is deep and undestands me well b/c if they truly understand me they will know how to make me laugh. And also comedians can make you laugh, a best friend is someone u can tell all ur secrets to and know they will try to empathize not someone that should do stand up.
