I met this really sweet guy. He is Mexican and I am Black. I speak limited Spanish, but I can follow a conversation though. He speaks limited English, but he can understand for the most part. But I want to have an extensive conversation with him besides the basic daily talk and I cant express myself without us sitting at the computer.

If something is too difficult to put into words, I will type the English version and it will show the Spanish translation with an audio pronounication. It is actually a fun learning tool, but it gets difficult sometimes if we are at a various location without the assistance.

I have been desperately been wanting to learn Spanish & Arabic for years. It's really mandatory in America. I am wondering can this work in the long run? Has anyone else tried this? What is a good way to start learning another language? Talking with someone daily will help I suppose because you hear it all day everyday.

I live in Korea and to answer your question, yes, it can work. However you will have many communication problems. But over time, if you truely care about either other you will both adopt either others language differences and grow. Also, remember that gestures are a great way to communicate and teach language, especially on a one-to-one basis.

Good luck.

I think that any relationship can possibly work even with a language barrier - the language of love has no boundaries or limitations if the two truly want to be together. Both of you can benefit from learning each others language however, if he is living in the US of A - he, more than you , definitely needs to learn English. You can help him and yourself by possibly taking some classes through your community schools - it's not very expensive. You can also consider getting videos from the library or using the internet to help you. Draw pictures if you have to - you both will learn unless you get frustrated in the interim. Good luck to both of you. It's always nice when two people find each other and want to be together.

It may be difficult, but I think you can make it work. I think you continuing to talk daily will be mutually beneficial. I would not rely on just talking to each other solely for assistance. I have a book that has 500 Spanish verbs which is a great help, provided you know how to conjugate the verbs. Buena suerte!

Take a Spanish class at a local adult school in the evening. Of course it will work! My daughter married a guy from Mexico and they are very happy. She took an immersion class in Spanish. It was a little costly, but worth it.

If you want to learn Spanish take a class, watch TV, listen to the music, ask him for help. When I met my husband he would ask me a word and I would have to teach how to say it. Teach him how to say things in English. and yes I believe you can make it work. I have been with my husband for 9 years , so it can work.--good luck

Of course it can!!! My mother is from Spain and when she met my father she did not speak a word of English and he did not know barely any Spanish. They eventually married and now he speaks and writes it better than I ever could!!! LOL!!

I think it can work too! Just take things day by day. Each of you can take language classes and learn together--at least both of you can understand the basics now--I think you'll be fine.

!Buena suerte!
