this is my opinion...there was this thing with Tony and the birds...it was the only time he was every happy...did you notice when he stood outside...he looked up the sky the light...listen....can u hear the birds? In my opinion he had a heart attack or an aneurysm...he died happy..everything after that was "Tony's heaven"..it was surreal...the visit to his Uncle ..the restaurant..take notice...when he walks in the restaurant..he sees himself sitting at the table...he has a dark gray shirt fancy like..when he is shown sitting he has a lighter gray shirt with black edging..that family never went to a diner to eat..it was slow motion..it was Tony's life...even in his afterlife he would always be looking over his shoulder...the fear would never go away...that's just my take on it

I feel that it was a complete let down especially for Soprano fans that have been with the show from the beginning. It was as watching the Godfather Part 3, a true defection from the story line. This last episode had really nothing to do with the storyline, did not summarize anything but that it was finally time to move on, and the whole conversation of you decide what happened was bogus. You know what happened, Meadow came in sat down and they listened to music ate dinner and went home.
Tony is not dead, who shot him if he was, was it the two African American's at the jukebox? Was it the old man that walked into the bathroom after ordering some food at the bar, not I got it it was the guy that was having dinner with his family that was sitting to the left of them, or better yet the waitress came back and blasted Tony as she took his order....LMAO
Honestly I could of did without the last two seasons of the Sopranos. They should of ended it 3 years ago when Chase was unsure if he wanted to bring it back or not.

I hope "the instant fade to black" DID Not suggest death. Tony was either whacked or he wasn't. A "discuss amongst yourselves" ending is a writers cop-out. I feel David Chase owed us loyal viewers an ending we wanted (and no that doesn't mean an endless bloodfest). I think what most fans wanted was closure on some of the characters and maybe some unexpected twists and turns.

In one of the first seasons they mentioned that there were 5 new york families. We, the viewers, were only able to see the one New York family. ruling out his death due to the fact that major players were not alive anymore is not plausible because anything could have happened in that final couple of seconds. he could have had FBI in the booth next to him. The guy that went into the bathroom, like in Godfather, could have come out with a Gun. Who knows. The reason i think Chase left it like this is to have a discuss amongst yourself ending, but morely if he doesn't give us closure, 1. it allows him to revisit the project in the future. 2. It never lets us have closure. We will always have Tony Soprano in the back of our mind. it is like a girlfriend of 7 years that suddenly just moves across the world one day without saying goodbye.
I hated the ending at first, but now i say...BRAVO.

At first I was totally shocked and disappointed about the ending, but now that I have slept on it I think it was brilliant! I would like to think Tony and family continues to carry on...but I don't know. What about the stranger at the bar? While waiting on Meadow to park, stranger gets up and goes to restroom, just before he enters, he turns and looks to towards Tony and family. Then it shows Tony looking at Meadow as she enters the restaurant. Could it be that the stranger came out of the restroom just before everything faded to black for Tony? Will we ever know?

I don't think Tony was whacked at the end of the show.
I think the whole Meadow parking, guy in the bathroom, guy with the sugar/coffee, guys at the pastry window was all just a setup for us to get our heart racing WAITING for the gun to start blasting. It didn't ... and I don't think it did in that diner. Tony is and always was going to be surrounded by shifty characters like that.
The interpretation is up to the individual, though.
That's just mine.

Ok alright I will give you the ending:
Tony sat with his family as the man who went to the restroom comes out and radioes for back up and then most of the shifty characters turn out to be undercover FBI agents and attempt to arrest Tony. Tony tells them he "ain't goin alive" and decides to pull a hand gun and blast himself. Fades to Black screen as the FBI agents close in to look at the dead mobster's remains.
THE END
Did you like it? Better than David Chase he can kiss my a**!

I thought there was something wrong with my television, I blamed my Husband saying he must have hit a button or something, he actually turned of the TV and we missed all the credits and all. So this was the early feed @ 6pm in so. cal. So we, not realizing what had actually happened waited and watched the later 9pm show, just the ending. Still.... I didn't like it at all. Oh and I did apologize to my Hubby
