What's the best way to remove the molds in any cars' air conditioning unit without removing the unit itself?

That smell developes because you are turning your car off and not turning your A/C off. I'm willing to bet you just keep the A/C in the on position and turn the car off. The system needs to be turned off before the engine so it can evacuate the system. This will help to solve you problem, because this is where the funky smell is growing.

Call a car dealer service dept--they usually have products that get poured or sprayed into the ac ducts to kill the mold---I know GM has a product for that at least. You could try car a/c shops or parts stores too.
