Does anyone know what this means in basketball terms? If you know, then you know the NBA.

Back in the 60s when a player was fouled while shooting and the team that fouled was over the limit in fouls to give, the foul shooter was given 3 shots to make his 2 free throws. If he made his 2 free throws in his first two tries he did not get a third shot. But if he missed one of the first two shots he would get a third shot. There was also a 2 to make 1 rule back then. Any defensive foul not made during the act of shooting was rewarded with a single free throw. If the fouling team was over the limit, the player taking the free throw was given two shots to make one.

I can only think of 2 possibilities : (1) The 3 pt. play- 2 pt. field goal followed by good free throw. (2) 3- second rule : No offensive player can be in the free throw lane longer than 3 seconds, so he has " 3 " seconds to make " 2" points.

Either you're not saying the term right, or the 20+ years I've watched the NBA for were a waste of time.
