I saw a pregnant woman smoking yesterday, actually. It's a very selfish thing. Women who smoke during pregnancy can cause a lot of medical complications for their unborn baby, such as asthma, low birth weight, respiratory problems, etc. I frown upon it and I really wish women would think before making the choice to harm their baby in such a way. What is worse than seeing a pregnant woman smoking is seeing one in a bar drinking alcohol, which can cause even more problems than smoking but neither are acceptable behavior, in my opinion.

"That poor baby!"

That said, I was a pack-a-day smoker until I found out I was pregnant. I immediately went cold turkey, and it's HARD. After the baby was born, I started smoking again. I do not smoke around my child, or in my home or car, but I know that it can still cause some problems health-wise.

Sad but true, quitting is not the easiest thing in the world. I'm trying to quit again, for my health and my son's, and I hope I'll be successful for good this time.

The child has to deal with health problems, with no choice made by him/her. If a person wants to smoke, fine, but I do not agree with smoking while pregnant. At least stop, and start again after the baby is born!

We really need to look in to giving people a license to breed.

I also love the fact that everytime I go to a bar it never fails I see a girl pregnant and smoking and hanging out with a drink.
Are they really aloud to serve them?

I imagine her poor baby in there hacking up brown flem all shriveled and elderly looking.
Of course that is what I imagined while I was pregnant, which is what kept me from wanting to light up. Being a Xsmoker I understand how hard it is to quit...but damnit, this is a new life you have to give that life a chance even if you don't care about your own.

That she doesn't seem to care enough for the health of her baby or herself. And then I feel sorry for the baby that will probably grow up smelling like smoke.

I have known women that smoke that quit when they found out they were pregnant, it can be done!

Ignorant

I think of how that used to be accepted 30-40 years ago, and how long we've come in learning about the effects of smoking tobacco.

It's deplorable now, sure, and seems ignorant.

It pisses me off...smoking during pregnancy lowers the birth weight of a child and doesn't give the child an adequate chance at life...women who do this need to stop thinking about what they want to do and need to start thinking about what is best for their child...
