i need one soon, how long does it take what do you have to do?

you have to find a certified instructor...they will be able to tell you for where you live how they handle it..i know around here they offer classes then they certify you.....call a local fire dept..there search and rescue should be able to direct you to a good instructor

To do it right it will take a couple of weeks. You have to take a course, which involves a lot of knowledge absorption. Don't try to fudge on this part or you may regret it down the road.

Then you have to take an open water dive test and if you pass you will receive your certification.

Call several local dive shops and see what their costs and schedules are. Also don't get suckered in to buying a lot of expensive gear right away. Rent for a while and you will learn to spend the money on the regulator, and save it on those overpriced BC's.

goole scuba courses. When you find a good one that you like, sign up and take the course. There will be a test at the end that you must pass.

You take a course from a certified instructor. You can certify with PADI or Naui. I recomend PADI because it is recognised world wide where NAUI isn't. You can contact most dive shops in your area. They either have or can tell you where to get the courses locally. You have to have a certification card to rent tanks or get them re filled. Good luck, be safe and have fun
