Has anyone older than fifty on here lived their whole life without living through a natural disaster? I am much younger than 50 and I have already lived through a hurricane and about 3 tornadoes. If you are younger than 50 and have lived through one, please tell.

I guess a lot depends where you live on the planet. I'm from the UK and we rarely have severe weather here, the same is true for much of Europe. Most people will witness some flooding, severe gales, maybe even a mild tornado but not on the sort of scale that causes devastation in other parts of the world.

All the extreme weather events I've been in have occured well away from the UK and often in extreme places such as mountain summits and the polar regions - simply going to such places is inviting an assault from the weather. As such I've been in winds twice the speed of a hurricane and temperatures ranging from -55C to +52C (-67F to +126F).

The most frightening experience was in a remote African village last year when a lightning storm struck without warming. It was striking objects all around and I went outside and stood under a canopy to watch, just as well as a few moments later it struck the building we'd been in and blew out all the windows. We were deafened and blinded for about 15 seconds, it was pretty scary stuff.
