give a Thumbs Down if it showed WHO gave the down???
I do NOT know what the point is of people giving Thumbs Down when it is an answer from personal experience...That makes no sense!

But if you are answering a question like "have you ever...." and you put your answer "yes, and this is what happened...." then what point is someone giving a thumbs down?? I can understand the ignorant answers getting thumbs down, and the ones that give bad advise, but personal experiences????

I think the anonymity of giving a thumbs up or a thumbs down on Yahoo! Answers does allow more people to express their opinion. If the Yahoo identity of people who gave a thumbs up or a thumbs down was posted it would probably make fewer people willing to vote. I tend to take the thumbs down votes too personally sometimes, but that is typical of my personality, I pay attention too much to what people think and I like people to like me! In reality, the thumbs down thing is just someone's opinion, so intellectually I know it's best not to worry too much about getting a thumbs down. Some people I think go through and thumbs down every answer that isn't theirs or doesn't agree with their answer. Sometimes I thumbs down strictly based on a person's horrendous spelling and punctuation skills. Sometimes I use the thumbs down when I am voting for Best Answer. It helps me narrow down the answers to the one I think really is the best. In the end, I try to offer the best answer I can based on my knowledge and experience, but it's not going to make everyone happy. I like to participate in Yahoo! Answers for fun so I try to ignore the stuff that bothers me.

When I give thumbs down it is usually because the answer does not fit the question or the answer makes fun of the question. Some people get on here and make sh*t up and try to be "funny". Some of the answers come from stupidity instead of personal experience.

-- oh and, yeah, I would still give a thumbs down even if the person could see that I did it. If I don't think your answer is helpful, then it gets a thumbs down. period.---

I do not think less people would give a thumbs down if they showed who gave the down. People give their opinions, experiences, etc. to questions, and it shows their little picture they picked or created. I do not think it would have any kind of effect, good or bad, if it showed who gave the thumbs down.

It's hard to say for sure, but I doubt it would make a huge difference. After all, you CAN see who leaves the answer, and that doesn't deter people from leaving answers that sometimes abusive.

It sounds like it bothers you to get a thumbs down - don't let it! This is a forum for advice and opinion, as well as fact. You can't please everybody, just as every single person can't please you. It's what makes the world go round!

Have you read some of the responses? Some are just stupid and those deserve a thumbs down.
