That includes one that is 50 metres away.

A strong wireless router is what you will need and multiple wireless cards for these PC's. Depending on obstacles, you may need to run a network cable to that one 50 meters away. A good MIMO (Multiple in Miltiple out) Router like a new linksys shoudl broadcast far enough in a standard home.

Let the router broadcast the wireless network, and scan for it on your other PC's. Then connect to the network. Any PC that is wired directly to the router will also be accessible.

Windows file sharing will make it relatively easy to share files back and forth. Limksys has a router now with a USB data port you can hook up a storage device to. That would really make things easy and accessible.

Well, a few years ago you could have used a system called Dot-COM. But they crashed, so try wireless networks. Research on the internet how to setup an Ad-Hoc Wireless Network. It links all the PCs together so you can send files to each other etc.
If you want to fully network your PCs, follow the "Setup a Small/Home Office Network" in WinXP. Goto START - CONNECT TO - NETWORK CONNECTIONS - (along the left hand side quick links bar) SETUP A SMALL/HOME OFFICE NETWORK.
Simple as that!

run network setup wizard to make sure the computers see each other then select the drives/folders you want to put on the network and right click then click sharing and security settings then check the box 'share this folder on the network' or whatever and click ok.

oh you never said if you had a laptop or not. if you do then you'll need one of these cards instead
