They managed to do it quite well before 1968.
Also adding the fact that the deals Israel has with the United States stops it from selling arms to nations like China, which cuts down on potential revenue.
And that the period of major land wars against Israel ended when Israel made peace with Jordan and Egypt, I would say that Israel could defend itself without American aid.
Would it be able to do so without American political support, that is a question.

The U.S. help involves arming the "good" Palestinian terrorists of Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), so that their arms will be used against Arabs and Jews without discrimination.
The U.S. help also means giving Saudi Arabia the very latest intelligence aircraft for use against Arabs and Jews with no discrimination.
Yes, I suspect that without this U.S. help, Israel could do quite well.

They have tactical nuclear weapons and a navy, a secret service that has a pretty high reputation and have been in a state of war for about 2000 years.
They seem to be doing ok so far.

they have over 200 nuclear bombs and airforce pilots with enough ability to take out every major muslim city in the arab world, including mecca (cross your fingers and make a wish)
so yea they can defend themselves but for the rest of humanity lets support them so they don't have to.
