Divide centigrade by 5. Multiply by 9. Add 32.

F =(9/5) *C + 32.

Multiply the centigrade value by (9/5) and add 32 to that value. For example, 10 degrees Celcius 10x9/5+32 =18+32=50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Use this equation: C= (F - 32) ÷ 9 x 5
Take the Fahrenheit figure and subtract 32.
Example: 400 - 32 = 368.
Divide that figure by 9. E.g: 368 ÷ 9 = (approx) 41.
Multiply that figure by 5. E.g: 41 x 5 = 205.
That final figure is the approximate temperature in Centigrade.
So, (400°F - 32) ÷ 9 x 5 = 205°C (actually it's 204.4°C)

centigrade to fahrenheit = temp in centigrade times 9 divided by 5 plus 32 = temp in fahrenheit

(example) 100 degrees centigrade x 9 divided by 5 + 32 = 212 fahrenheit.

If you want to be able to do this in your head (and I don't know my 9/5ths times tables all that well) you can use some substitution.

9/5 = 10/5 - 1/5
= 2 - 1/5
= 2 - 2/10 (hang in there with me)

This means 9/5 of something is double that something minus 2/10 of that something, or, more importantly, minus 1/10 of that doubled something (don't you just love decimals?)

So,
F = 9/5 C + 32
= (2 - 2/10)C + 32
= 2C - (2/10)C + 32
= 2C - (2C)/10 + 32
but for that middle part, we already know what 2C is. Just move the decimal point!

So, take the centigrade temperature
Double it
Subtract 1/10 of that doubled amount
Add 32

An example with 20 degrees C
C = (2x20) - (2x20)/10 + 32

2x20 = 40
2x20/10 = 4 (or just move the decimal point)

F = 40 - 4 + 32
and the rest is left as an exercise for the reader.

I find this much easier to do in my head and with a bit of practice I just mumble to myself, "20 times 2 is 40 minus 4 is 36 plus 32 is 68" (OK, I gave away the answer.)

Hope this helps.

multiply by 9, divide by 5 and add 32 to go from C to F

and form F to C

you subtract 32 then multiply by 5 and divide by 9
