It's all about the flow chart. Thoughts are internal reflections of external stimuli. Example: Your ear sends raw data to the brain. Your mind then flips through the files to either find a match or make a new category. That is thinking. Imagination is thinking in reverse. When you take random (ha ha) files and build something new with them, that is imagination, from the inside out.

Thought is a window which can peer into many universes.

Think of the peculiarities of the more familiar kind of window and you may have some insight into some of the challenges of thought. Some windows are tinted. Some dirty from neglect and others squeaky clean. Some homes have only one small window... others have them even inside and into places that never were.

So it goes with thought. A window. Just look...

Thought is an ocean of temptation that forms a pattern around it's energy source. The only choice we have is to consciously not "feed" the arising thought...not give it more food/energy. It loses it's momentum and dies. This is the only way to end suffering.

There are lots of scientifically based definitions, but I like to think of it as something deeper than that. It is hard to define, but perhaps triggered by our surroundings and things which mean a lot emotionally to us. To me I think out own thoughts help to shape us and make us who we are.
