I've got a chinese friend who lives in Beijing who got pregnant from a British man. She doesn't want an abortion, but can't do school, work her job, and deal with the baby all at the same time. What can she do to get the man to pay for child support? Any sites that she could check out? I've no idea how to help her out with this.. Any advice would be great to relay to her. Thanks

China still has a one-child policy, so if she doesn't want an abortion, she can either a- decide to be a parent for the first and only time now, or b- give the baby up for adoption. Possibly the baby can go to Britain with the father. Tell her to talk to a lawyer!

She should contact the British Embassy and see how she goes about registering the birth so the child has british nationality; then obtain an attorney to go after child support and the whole monty.

Though China has a one child policy. If you want a second child you have to pay a fine to keep them. My brother inlaw is a Chinese citizen, has 2 kids, had to pay a fine to keep the second baby. As long as you can afford it you are not limited to one child.

As for your friends predicament, I recommend her going to "The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong ". They can give her what alternatives she has. Abortion, Adoption... whatever, they can help her on which direction she can turn to at this time. (If she want's to abort.. I recommend not waiting too long... they need to do the proceedure early in the pregnacy.)

Can she prove the child is his? I hear that paternity tests are expensive. If she has proof that he is the Father, maybe she could contact the British counsel, if he refuses to help her first. Good luck.

Well I dont know what being British has to do with anything.

Hopefully she still has his phone number and should call him.

Then call a lawyer if he resists.

And ask her to use a condom if she is unable to face the realites of being a parent.

has she even talked to the guy to tell him that she is pregnant? I would think that he might want a paternity test to prove that it is his child... then hopefully he would be willing to pay child support.

I agree with Kelsey H... China does still have a one-child policy.
