My *guess* is yes, they were real and quite advanced. And that they were wiped out during Noah's Flood.

There was a period (about 2400 B.C.) when several Mediterranean civilizations were all but wiped out, including the Minoans. The Minoans were a very peaceful, nature-oriented society which was quite advanced at the time, in comparison to the Greeks. When the Greeks were still living in huts, the Minoans had white limestone palaces. The artifacts that have been found are gorgeous. We don't know a lot about their civilization, but the remains of the buildings that have been found were actually designed to be earth-quake proof! They were not warriors--they were traders, so they welcomed strangers.
Around 2400 B.C., one of the islands which had a Minoan civilization, Santorini, had an eruption which was one of the largest on Earth. It blew away half the island, and ash from the eruption has been found as far away as the Nile delta. It would have caused a tsunami high enough to reach the mountaintops of surrounding islands. In fact, pumice from the eruption has been found there. This is exactly when the Minoan buildings collapsed.

People can believe what ever they want. The evidence available is pure conjecture and often ignores science that shows the "evidence" is not evidence but misinterpretation of other facts.
Example: The so called "Bimini Wall" or "Bimini road" in the Bahamas. These rock formations are found in many places in the world and are created by natural geological processes. But people want to believe in Atlantis so they ignore the geologists.
The origin of the myth is from an ancient Greek who heard stories about a long dead Egyptian who told stories about a place that was a great sea power and one day disappeared because of a great disaster - the Isle of Minos.
But in the centuries after it happened the story great about how great they were and how big the island was... and now people believe the myth rather than learn history and fact - which is no less wonderful.

I've actually visited Knossos, the capital city of the Minoan empire and the apparent basis for Atlantis. They were an earth worshiping civilization many years ahead of their contemporaries in terms of architecture and engineering - they even had a crude form of air-conditioning. The Minoan civilization was irrevocably damaged by the eruption of a volcano on nearby Santorini in 1400 BC, which caused a tidal wave which toppled the architectural and engineering feats and wiped out most of the island's population.

Yes. However, from Plato's standpoint, we are Gods. We have horseless carriages and things that fly in the air...
Advanced is in the eye of the beholder. If they had better brozed pot they could have been advanced. And we, as advanced people think that to have gotten that "adanvced" moniker they had to at least have flying cars!
Sure,t ehre was an atlantis, but where they wise? Well, according to the myth they blew themselves up three times. So. um..no. they were not wise.

I believe that Atlantis will rise again. Many people believe that the cause of Atlantis going under the sea was because of polar tilt, and that the earth is tilting again, thus revealing Atlantis. I'm not sure if i believe the polar tilt, but if it is true i hope i am alive to see it rise again.

It was not a tsunami that destroyed Atlantis, it was an earthquake caused by a volcano that sunk it in the ocean... And yes I do believe that Atlantis did exist in all of its splendor.....................

I love to watch shows about how it might have existed. I have to admit theres a part of me that thinks it exists and a part of me that doesn't think it does. The same goes for christanity theres a part of me that says God doesn't exist but I can't errase the thought of him not existing.

great song by Donovan Lietch in 1968....
The continent of Atlantis was an island which lay before the great flood
in the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean.
So great an area of land, that from her western shores
those beautiful sailors journeyed to the South and the North Americas with ease,
in their ships with painted sails.
To the East Africa was a neighbour, across a short strait of sea miles.
The great Egyptian age is but a remnant of The Atlantian culture.
The antediluvian kings colonised the world
All the Gods who play in the mythological dramas
In all legends from all lands were from fair Atlantis.
Knowing her fate, Atlantis sent out ships to all corners of the Earth.
On board were the Twelve:
The poet, the physician, the farmer, the scientist,
The magician and the other so-called Gods of our legends.
Though Gods they were -
And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind
Let us rejoice and let us sing and dance and ring in the new
Hail Atlantis!
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be.
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be.
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah,
I wanna see you some day
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah,
My antediluvian baby,
My antediluvian baby, I love you, girl,
Girl, I wanna see you some day.
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah
I wanna see you some day, oh
My antediluvian baby.
My antediluvian baby, I wanna see you
My antediluvian baby, gotta tell me where she gone
I wanna see you some day
Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, oh yeah
Oh glub glub, down down, yeah
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah yeah yeah
