just click on the box next to them and then click on spam at the bottom of the page, it will automatically block that person from sending you anything else

It's not illegal just to receive these randomly targeted spam e-mails, so if you just delete them you should be fine. Just keep on putting them in Junk mail, and if you have a spam filter, keep telling the filter that those messages are spam. (In Yahoo mail you use "Spam" button to do that; I don't know what Hotmail has, but there should be something similar.) Eventually, the filter will start recognizing them as spam and put them into the Junk folder without your having to do anything about it. All you need to do is after that is just quickly browse through the Junk mail folder to make sure it doesn't have any legitimate messages; then you can just empty the contents of the folder and be done with it.

Just to expand because I don't think it was mentioned: Many a time, the subject header of the email will be misspelled or spelled using replacement characters for traditionaly letters (ie. using Zero instead of the letter O, or a 1 instead of L). Spammers use this technique to bypass spam filters that will pick up the offending words. That said, if you see an email from a sender you do not know, and you note the egregious misspellings, I'd say it is something you DO NOT want to open.

Unfortunately there is little you can do. My best advice (that has worked for me in the past) is to use a spam filter if one exists, if not then you are pretty much screwed. In any case, the best thing for you to do is ignore them. If it seems like its from a legit company like Walgreens or something than it is probably safe to unsubscribe, but unsubscribing to some filthy spammers only gets you more spam because now they know you are really there. Using a free email from hotmail or yahoo will almost always get you spam even if you never give it out, because you are listed in a member directory.

Go to the hotmail site they do have spam options, you can set it to only allow the email addresses you enter, the rest go into the spam folder.
You should look into the spam folder just to check no known e-mail addresses are there, if they are put those addresses into you allowed list, and transfer the e-mail to your in box.
If you get email you do not know, don't even open them.
They mis spell to try and out do the spam filters.

Most e-mail program include a way to mark unwanted e-mail. You either mark it as "spam", or add it to a blocked list. Over time, as you faithful add it e-mail to the list, you may be able to reduce the amount of such mail you receive.
The other alternative (since it is a free email) is to just abandon that account and create a new one. Create the new account, and then before you close the old one, e-mail everybody in your contacts that you want to have the new address and tell them to update your list. The new address will usually give you 3-6 months before it finds its way unto the spam listing again.

You need a different email address to use when you are just checking something out that you need to enter one for. someone is spaming you or checking out your ISP address to send the spam to. Don't click on them or even try to unsubcribe to them . By doing that you are letting them know there is activitiy on that address. Just use a free email address for signing up for things that you really don't need to respond to. Open that email up once in a while and delete everything sent to you.
This will keep them from closing your account. Be nice though and don't use Yahoo for your junk mail. They are too good too good to us.

Use Yahoo Mail. It's officially the world's fav e-mail. Oh, and use the new version, it's got Spam blocker AND anti-virus, which actually cleans the virus! Also you can set up an AdressGuard that enables you to make a false email, and if you're signing up to something you're unsure about, use it, and if it's spam you can get rid of the adress!

once you utilize internet based digital mail servers you will in fact in no way eliminate this issue. it extremely is a nicely popular reality so you might purchase blocks of digital mail addresses. that's the greater serious factor you're able to do is save all your emails on some distant server. even once you delete any, it continues to be on that server till they % while to bathe them out. Like Yahoo does. The maximum secure place on your emails is on your pc coming via your ISP's very own digital mail provider. once you acquire them there is not any reproduction left on their server. i take advantage of Virgin and a couple of years returned they have been given bored stiff with each and all the junk overloading their servers that they set up filters to end each and all the porn, Viagra, US Pharmacies, Junk cures, Scams from Nigeria, Russia and the far East and something you care to call. they're stopped at source and as quickly as they hit the servers they're on the instant deleted. in reality i've got not seen a porn, Viagra or the different junk for over 18 months. i do no longer even run with any filtering of any sort. till such time different emails centers take a similar no longer basic line as Virgin then you extremely will in no way end the issue!

But i still have the email address and I do sometimes get on it to see if someone who does know me who is trying to reach me, I can contact them and tell them about my new email.

If you are worried about the content's legality and are in the UK, contact the Internet Watch Foundation;
http://www.iwf.org.uk
where you will be able to report the emails. If the content is not unlawful in itself, but you believe you are being targetted, make a complaint to the police, who will investigate its source.
Otherwise, block the addressee or set up a more active spam filter.
Hope it passes.
