I am TTC (11 months now) - on my second cycle of clomid, I ovulate, but my cycles have been irregular - I have been charting faithfully for 4 months now, and have never had a "dip" after ovulation. This month I had a HUGE dip- from 97.8 to 97.3 on 6 dpo, followed by bad AF cramps on day 7 with my temp being 97.8 for a day, then 98.0-8dpo, 98.3 9 dpo, 98.2 10dpo, and today 11 dpo it is 97.9. I have cramps on and off, like AF, I did not have them day 8,or 9 but yesterday and today I do. I am so afraid to get my hopes up- alot of people do not believe in the "dip". I have also been having weird dreams, bad heartburn, a little nausea, and I am incredibly tired. My boobs started hurting 7 dpo and still do . I am not due for AF until Thursday. Does anyone have any views on the "dip" - did I get it twice, was day 6 a fluke (right below cover line)- or do you think my latest drop is because of AF? Please share...

I agree with Jill - your latest lower temp dip is still in line with your other post-O temps and is not really a dip (as your 97.3 was). Imp dips are from 6 DPO so it could have been or it could have been an increase in oestrogen levels as Jill said.

I would say that it's a bit too early to get lower temps before AF - I notice from most charts that the lower temp comes mainly 1 or 2 days before AF shows or the day of. You've got 3 days to go.

I've also noticed that temps often rise to their maximum approx. half way through the luteal phase and then start to decline (progesterone levels decreasing maybe?) gradually until implantation takes place (if of course you're indeed pregnant) when a message is received by the corpus luteum to continue producing progesterone and therefore you then see a rise in temp a few days after implantation.

Personally, my temps never drop until a few days AFTER AF shows so it always get me hopes up!!! It's really annoying.

You could well be pregnant - I've given up second guessing now as all of my cycles look as though I've been pregnant (+ I've had all the symptoms) and then I've just not been able to hold on to it. So you could well be but it could be short lived or it could be the real deal - either way I'm afraid it's impossible to say.

That's the frustrating thing about TTC - nothing's certain. And what may look promising from one chart can result in no pregnancy whilst oddly, some charts look as though AF is due with a big drop in temp, only to be preg!! It's bizarre.

I really hope you are and wish you much luck x

If I had to guess I would say your estrogen has surged slightly on about day 6 and that is the reason for the dip. Estrogen actually lowers body temp and it is quite normal to have a small estrogen surge about a week or so after ovulation. As for the slight dip on CD11, I wouldn't really consider it a dip--it corresponds with your post-O temps.
