prickly lettuce weed? These things are AWFUL!! I have tried digging them all up, from the roots and tried spraying them with weed spray. I don't really have grass in the yard because it won't grow(that's another question), but these darn weeds will not go away! also..they have little thorns on them, that feel sharp like rose thorns but they aren't that thick, they're more like hairs.

There are several herbicides made from natural ingredients. Those that contain clove oil (eugenol) give the best control of young broadleaf weeds.

After this year a pre-emergent like Preen containing corn gluten will work.

These are a distinctive weed and perfect for paying the neighbor kids to pull up at a price per weed wage. I pay my kids two pennies per weed with a root on it. Anyway, they need to be pulled by hand now until september. Then start treating your lawn with a fertilizer that has weed control. This will keep the seeds that do get to the ground from germinating, so this problem will be greatly lessened next year.

Oh yeah, for the "thorns", just put on some leather gloves.
