Depends on what caused the partition lose. If it is only a problem with the File Allocate Table, then most file recovery programs can get the data back. Go to http://download.com and do a search for "file recovery" software.

Install the software on a different partition then one you want to recover. Then run it and point to to the missing partition. It may be able to cover the files.

However, if the lose is because of a mechanical failure, you will need a professional recovery service. They have to open the drive in a "clean room" with special equipment to repair it. And then usually all they can do is get the data. Once they are done working, the hard drive will no longer be usable and you will have to replace it. Cost to recover a hard drive run in $2000-2500US. There is usually a $100 fee just to look at the drive and see if it is recoverable.

Use Partition Magic 8 or above if any to retreive the lost partition. But Before that make sure that you 've lost it! Then use the Software called "RecoverMyFiles" and search for a lost partition. it will fetch all the files back into the new drive you specify. Both the S/w are self-explanatory Since you have lost the partition itself there is no harm in trying. They should do no physical damage, I with my own experience, suppose.

You could take it to a hardrive rescue business, and see if they can retrieve the old partition. It doesn't come cheap though.
