Depends on what you mean by a better player---
If you want a great defensive shortstop, great .AVG hitter, amazing in the playoffs, non-controversial, and quiet leader, you want Jeter.
But if you want a huge power shortstop, horrible in the playoffs, very controversial player, not a leader, and defense can be iffy, you want A-Rod
If you had a choice with either Jeter in his prime or A-Rod in his prime, it depends on who you want. If you have a baseball team in New York, you would probably want Jeter...especially how A-Rod cannot perform in the playoffs. But if you have a team in Seattle, you want A-Rod. It all depends...

Right now so far in the season i would say A-Rod b/c he has 24 HR's and 63 RBI's. You can always count on A-Rod when the game is tight and when runners are in scoring position. Dont get me wrong Derek Jeter is my absolute favorite and all but A-Rod is doing better right now. Jeter is a great clutch hitter and is great on defense. He's doing really great this year too. I love both of them though!!! You really need both Jeter and A-Rod to have a team. If you didnt have Jeter you wouldnt have a Yankee Captan and if you didnt have A-Rod then you wouldnt have any wins. GO A-ROD!! GO JETER!! I LUV U GUYS!!! GO YANKEES!!! 27 in 07'!! i <3 NYY!! =)

If I had the choice between the two I would rather have Jeter. SS is the most important position at infield and the plays that he has come up with throughout the years are unbelievable, ex Jeter flip to Posada to get Giambi out at home where did he come from on that one??? Not only is Jeter defensively better than arod but he is CLUTCH. Arod stinks in October while Jeter comes out as a hero. If you want talk about who is the better hitter, I'll still take Jeter. Sure arod will give up around 40 homers a year but will he get on base when has to, bunt, smack the ball in the right spot, get hit by a pitch and shrug it off and take first, steal second. Among all, Jeter is a leader.

Alex Rodriguez is the better hitter. Jeter will hit for a higher average and steal more bases. A-Rod will hit more home runs. The great thing about A-Rod is that he can hit a lot of home runs and still maintain an average around .300. Both players are also good defensively. Jeter has been better over the last few seasons, but before A-Rod moved to third base, he was the better defensive player. A-Rod also has the speed to steal a base every once in a while. Both are great players and in the top 5 for their position, but Alex is the better overall player.

What Month is it? April-September A-Rod....October and November(sometimes when they finish in November) Jeter. Jeter is a very good player until the playoffs then hes great. A-Rod is a great player until the playoffs then he sucks. So while for the regular season I would want A-Rod once the playoffs roll around Jeter is definatly better.

A-Rod is by far the best player.
Jeter is hands down the best team mate.
Both are great. If I needed better power numbers, Id take A-Rod. If I needed hits and a team leader, Id take Jeter. Since Im a Yankee fan, Im delighted to have them both!

A-Rod is on pace to set the record for home runs, hits, and runs batted in in the history of major league baseball. Alex Rodriguez isn't only better, but he's one of the players that our children will tell there children about.
People say he's not successful because he's never won a World Series. Is Billy Williams not successful? How 'bout Ernie Banks, Rod Carew, George Sisler, George Kell, or Vladimir Guerrero? Besides, A-Rod has many more chances to make it the World Series, especially now that he seems very comfortable in New York. He seems to have a certain aura at the plate that I've never seen him have in New York - not even in 2005 - that i feel will translate to the postseason this year.

I'll say A Rod. Jeter has been a little slow this year. Balls have been getting be him this year that would have never gotten by last year.

What would you rather have, a million dollars in your hand or a million dollars in the bank? when you try to compare two of the best players in baseball today it is just going to come down to personal preference. Both players can beat you so many ways you can't go wrong. However, if it were me I would give the edge to Jeter because I believe he is more of a leader and a better teammate in the clubhouse.
