They certainly have different and unique personalities and it's easy to get attached to them. It's also not unusual at all that they get to be able to recognize their owner.

all fish have personalities I have over 250 fish 5 of which are bettas and everyone acts a little different you might not notivce at first or if you dont pay close attention but they have personalities all my fish know me because me and my friend were looking at my tank because he has never seen it before and I was standing next to him and all but 2 or three fish were gathering around I walked away from the tanks and all the fish went on their way. my bettas know when they get fed who I am and later in the evenings they will watch me walk around my room or just stare I move and they will follow

I have 5 bettas right now, all in 5 galllon+ filtered and aerated tanks. It seems like the male who has the 10 gallon to himself has more personality. All seem to watch me and know when it is feeding time. Currently I am going to be getting another male betta soon in a 2.5 gallon+ tank.

My betta knows who I am too and he also understands that when I turn off his bubbles (aerator) that it's time to eat so he goes up to the top of the little aquarium and waits. He sometimes rides the bubbles up to the top then swims back down, then rides up again and just keeps doing this...like he's bored with life in the water. He also serves a toy to my cat. He will swim up and down while my cat puts his paws on the glass (but don't worry people, it's covered and the cat can't get him). I think fish may be smarter than people give them credit for.

Very interesting :D I experience the same with my fancy Guppies. When I walk near the tank they will all cuddle up to the top of the tank and wiggle for food. The same will happen when i open the drawer under the fish tank where their food is stored. :) I like how he responds to his name though. You have a very smart fish there! Congrats!
