It is unlikely that a computer would have a build in wireless router. Wireless routers are what transmit a signal out to a computer. So it would be useless to have one inside of a computer. What you are probably thinking of is a wireless card (also called wireless adaptor). A wireless card is what recevies the signal from the router. That has to be in the computer.

As a wireless card is a piece of hardware, the version of Windows has nothing to do with whether there is one install or not. If you have a wireless card installed, you will normally have an icon in the system tray near the clock for controlling the card. If the computer is a laptop, it will probably have one. If the computer is a desktop, it probably won't.

Windows Vista is the operating system that would be installed on your computer and has no bearing on whether or not you have a wireless router. A wireless router is a piece of hardware that allows multiple users the ability to connect to an internet connection. Your question, I assume, would be whether or not your machine has a wireless "card".

1. The most common is through a wireless ethernet card, most often used in laptop computers that slides right into a slot on the side of the machine called a PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) slot.

2. Some laptop computers offer an integrated wireless card built into the machine, they are becoming more and more common with the world of WiFi.

3. Another option is with a desktop computer. There are several types of USB Wireless Cards that are available to plug into the back of a USB port. These will be slightly more expensive but much harder to miss.

So if you have a laptop, it would have either come with a wireless adapter about 5 inches long by 3 inches wide and slides easily into your PCMCIA slot, or by reading the manual or contacting the customer support and providing the serial number, you should be able to determine whether or not you have a wireless card.

I think what you meant was Wireless Lan not router. Yes, newer models almost always have this built in already since internet connection has become a basic necessity.

I think you're meaning wireless network card. Wireless routers are external devices.

it may have a built in wireless adapter and you may be able to connect to unsecure wireless networks in your area, but the PC itself won't have a built in router.
