You may want to check with your county auditor and see if they have a website. Many county auditors have websites now where they show you the history of the property. It all depends on where you are located. Another option is zillow.com, it is not very accurate for values but you might be able to get a ballpark estimate. I would be not all that worried what she paid for it unless she bought it in the last 12 months, properties appreciate and areas appreciate so what they paid for it 5 years age may not be a good indicator of value.

If you Google the name of your city/town and the words "tax records" or "property tax" then you should be able to navigate your way to the tax records for your house, which probably will include both the price paid by the current owner (and the purchase date) and the house's current tax assessment. Whether the tax assessment value accurately reflects the house's current market value depends on where you live, the condition of the home, etc., but it may give you at least a ballpark figure.

go to zillow link below and put in your address they have the last date and price the house sold for usually. If she has owned it for 20 or 30 years it might not show. It also give what they call a zestimate but that amount is not always what the house is worth. It is an estimate only.

Have a good real estate agent find all that out for you. Let them do the work. Beside that, all that info is public record that you could find at the county record office.

if you explain to her that you are looking to buy it, shes not going to think your moving.. another option is have it appraised and that will tell you what its worth..
it doesnt matter what it has sold for before.. property values always change.. they can go up or down constantly!
