Those you like to bury their head in the sand still don't understand that this is not aimed at just insurgents, Blackwater USA contractors ( and I use that term loosely) could go into a town, slaughter innocent Iraqis and they cannot be touched.
This is thanks to Paul Bremer who signed an order known as Order 17 which exempts mercenaries such as Blackwater from prosecution for ANY atrocity they commit in Iraq.

I may be able to concede that your concern for the contractors lack of accountability per the Geneva Convention might not be fair, but you need to examine the entire situation. Who is our enemy? A group of religious extremists. This is an incredibly brutal and malicious group that is willing to end their own lives to take those of their enemy. They don't concern themselves with collateral damage or the Geneva Convention. They are not willing to reason with us, because they see something fundamentally wrong with all Americans. They are almost impossible to distinguish from nonviolent locals. These people are classified as terrorists due to their use of scare tactics, crudely constructed explosives and guerrilla tactics even against their own people. To claim that the Blackwater contractors are terrorists would be inaccurate. You might be better off arguing that they simply don't follow the rules of engagement, and perhaps that is unsettling to you. I, however, think we need more of these contract fighters. They don't have to deal with the red tape of our congress, and they can therefore get the job done right. This all amounts to the war ending faster and the troops coming home, likely with fewer casualties on our side. While I don't condone the execution of civilians, I do promote the elimination of the insurgents by almost any means.
You should probably read up on what Blackwater actually does. They haven't been simply hired out to kill as many Iraqis as possible or even to necessarily fight. Their responsibility in Iraq is mostly security and defense of other private companies and contractors, as well as logistical support for these groups.
Also, Bush didn't even try to answer the question. He basically said "My bad, I'm not well briefed on this topic unfortunately. It's impossible for me to know everything, that's what my staff is for. Please allow me to ask the staff member who has the responsibility of knowing that information." How many politicians have the balls to say something like that?

Insurgents in Iraq would not be killing Americans if the Americans were not in Iraq.
The facts have shown that Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction. The facts have shown that Iraq was not supporting terrorists. History has shown that Iraq was run the way it was because America gave Hussein the power.
Blackwater are mercenaries who profit from war and the perpetuation of armed conflict. Like any for profit organization, they have no desire to put themselves out of work, so will prolong operations in order to keep making money. They have no desire to bring about a swift end to the situation in Iraq.

Because people are not hungry for the truth in this country.
What you say is correct, and the truth is that 20% of our US military ground forces are foreign nationals recruited into our army basically as mercenaries. There is a huge foreign outreach in process to swell our ranks as we prepare for war with Iran.
Americans will have to be broken free of their paradigms before they will see reality. And as long as they can get their drive-through "happy meals" and dvds from Blockbuster, we fight an uphill battle for truth and understanding.

most americans get their news from tv and take it at face value without digging deeper through print or the net.this is why people on y/a still refer to 911 as a reason for us attacking iraq.

Maybe we need to hire more Blackwater Contractors! It sounds like maybe they could get the job done... kill the enemy who themselves don't obey any Geneva Convention, take the country and oil, and then send them to Iran...

If the damn politicians would let our military fight the right way then we wouldn't have to have contractors do the job. I personally don't care how the insurgents get killed as long as they get killed.
