I personally use a Windows Vista tablet pc with just about every bell and whistle there is. However, I'm also limited to space in my office, so it helps. Plus, I'm not a gamer, so I really don't need the horsepower that the stronger desktop pcs offer.
You really have to ask yourself a few questions first:
1. How often are you going to use your computer?
2. What are you planning on doing with it? Storing digital pics? Music files?
3. Do you plan on playing any games on your computer?
As was mentioned earlier, one of the advantages of a desktop pc is that it's a lot easier to upgrade components. With laptops, you can upgrade RAM, hard drives, but that's about it for most normal users.
Right now my tablet is as strong as most gaming desktops, but I custom built it that way.
Most of my clients when they buy their first pc typically purchase a desktop. If you're new to computers, I'd recommend a desktop.
Hope this helps!

A desktop would be less pricey, but a laptop would be more portable. Some peopl I work with also use their laptop as a DVD player as it has a bigger screen. Laptops typically have smaller hard drives, slower processors than desktop pc's. I think you should consider what you are going to use this for and then look for a laptop or desktop that would fit your needs. Dell is always running specials and most of the people I know have them. Their website will also give you an indication of what kind of pc you would need based on if you are a gamer, just websurfer, need it for business, etc.

A pc with lcd monitor (if required) would be a better option than a laptop....
The reasons are
1) a laptop of the same configuration as that of a pc would cost you twice or thrice as that of your pc (considering a good brand).
2) a laptop will have battery life of max. 3-4 hours
3) a laptop cannot be used for working for long hours as it would heat up the processor (even if in a AC room) and eventually has a lesser life period than a PC

I personally have both at home, I like my laptop because I can unplug it from its docking station and take it with me, and not have to worry about where I'm going having a computer with the right software, or equipment. I have my computer with me and know what's on it and know that it is properly secured for any network and internet use while on the go.
If you dont plan on doing anything such as mobile computing or extended travels then a desktop computer will work much better, due to they are more stable as in less chance of failure due to mishandling and droppage. Where as a laptop if you drop it, more than likely something will break.

Generally, desktops.
Laptops are convenient because you can carry them around to meetings, to classes etc. But that convenience comes at a price. They are more prone to overheating & suffer far more hardware failures because they get bumped and shaken while being carried around- whereas a PC sits in one spot and doesn't move, so it doesn't get physically jarred as often. PC's are also easy to upgrade, whereas laptops are not- you can't upgrade your video card or sound or processor on laptops- you're stuck with whatever it came with for the life of the machine.
Let alone someone accidentally dropping it, or spilling something on it (everybody keeps a drink nearby while working on their computer)- if you spill water on your desktop's keyboard, you only soaked a keyboard which is trivial to replace. With laptops, the motherboard and internal components are directly underneath, so spills can be much more costly.

If you have a place to keep your computer table at your home then definitely go for LAPTOP becoz then it will serve both purpose . I bought laptop and initially felt this problem of packing and unpacking of laptop till i was not having the table. Now this laptop is placed on the table as PC and simultaneously giving me the advantage to carry whenever required

Depends on your preference. If you're a type of person who moves around the house alot and still want a piece of your computer, then a laptop. If you have a set place to put your computer, then a desktop. Personally I favor a desktop over a laptop at home. They tend to be more powerful and more expandable.

If you need your computer at your home only and not wherever you go..then PC is better than laptop.
Plus PC can be upgraded with latest technologies such RAM,HDD,Graphics card etc., as you need them. A little difficult for laptops.

If there is space in your house which will not disturb the interior decorations, a desktop PC is better or else a laptop is better. Have a nice decision! :-)
