I turned on my computer one day to find it running REALLY slowly,
I assumed it to be a parasite or spyware, and whatever I try to get rid of it doesn’t work:
-I first tried to run the Task Manager which it responded by saying it was disabled by the administrator. I tried to delete the block in the REGedit but it just keeps reappearing.
-I then ran the system restore, to find it disabled and all my previous reset points deleted. Even after reactivating it and attempting to restore, it fails to do so successfully.
-Deleting temporary files and cookies and such took forever (it kept crashing my explorer) but I did it in the end.
-I’ve run AD-Aware several times, but it just keeps finding more stuff to delete.
-WHATEVER spyware I run, it ALWAYS FAILS TO UPDATE MY DEFINITIONS.
-When I search for things on Google, it keeps redirecting me to another search engine.
-My security settings for IE refuse to be set below Medium, and although the bar appears, it will not let me run ActiveX.

HijackThis crashes when I try to open it (even after running programs like CoolWebShredder),
and since installing AVG antivirus, my computer decides to automaticly shut itself down when I turn it on

It does sound like a very nasty spyware infection. Ad-Aware alone might not be able to remove it; you should try also Spybot S&D ( http://www.safer-networking.org/ ), although if you can't update the definitions, they won't help.
You can get the best collection of anti-malware tools downloading HitmanPro: http://www.hitmanpro.nl/hitmanpro/

There are a couple of tools you can try first; they target specific infections. These may or may not help, they clean some of the worst parasites in the wild; CoolWebSearch and SmitFraud.

CoolWebShredder : http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php#cwshredder

SmitFraudFix: http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php

If you manage to clean up the infection, you might want to try WinsockFix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml
It should restore your networking settings if they were corrupted by the infection.

If all fails and you want to try other options, download HijackThis from here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php#hijackthis
Run it, save a log file, and then go to SpywareInfo forums and post a request for help. There's the greatest people in the world there, they may be able to guide you through a cleanup.

Take it along to a reputable computer store and have them completely wipe your hard disc and then re-install your operating system from the recovery discs that you would have had with the machine. It will restore it to the condition like it was when bought new.

you do have a set of rescue disk that you made when you first got right.
if not contact the place where you bought and see if they'll send you a set.
failing that go buy a new copy of wndows xp and reinstall windows.

Hello there! Sorry, I'm not answering your question. Just noticed your unusual surname. Same as mine before I married. Maybe it isn't that unusual.

Have you got any anti virus software installed?

Adaware is not an anti virus programme.

You can download AVG free. here http://www.grisoft.com/
