Yes, he did, he died of a heart attack after Darlene's wedding. But Roseanne was "rewriting" the story and she said that he had been cheating on her (I think) but at the end we learn he died.

In the final episode, Roseanne is writing a book, down in the basement--where Dan had made her an office. We hear the words of the book, and it says, "I lost Dan to his heart attack--it was just easier to think he was away having an affair." (that's not word for word). So yes, Dan did die on the series.

Yes, in the final episode we learn that everything we watched prior was what Roseanne was writing but that on the show Dan really did die of a heart attack. Please watch the last episode and it will explain it all.

YES he died!

Originally aired: Tuesday May 20, 1997 on ABC
Writer: Roseanne, Allan Stephan
Director: Gary Halvorson
Show Stars: John Goodman (Dan Conner), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie Harris), Sara Gilbert (Darlene Conner Healy), Roseanne (Roseanne Harris Conner), Sarah Chalke (Rebecca "Becky" Conner Healy (1993-1997)), Michael Fishman (David Jacob "D.J." Conner)
Recurring Role: Fred Willard (Scott), Johnny Galecki (David), Glenn Quinn (Mark Healy), Estelle Parsons (Bev), Martin Mull (Leon), Sandra Bernhard (Nancy), Cole Roberts (Jerry Garcia Conner)
Production Code: 1024

Roseanne and Dan are delighted that Darlene, David and their new daughter, Harris Conner Healy, will be staying with them. D.J. has grudgingly given up his room for them and is moving to the basement. He says he’ll have more room to work on his film projects, but reminds Roseanne he was supposed to get her writing room. The family talks about their life after winning the lottery, glad that part of their lives is over. They order out for pizza and Roseanne suggests saying grace to thank God that Harris beat the odds and that they’re all together. Everyone comes by to welcome Harris home: Bev, Leon, Scott and Nancy. They’re all pleased when Leon and Scott announce that they’ve adopted a three-year-old Romanian girl, and it’s revealed that Becky has just learned she’s pregnant but has yet to tell the family. And as the extended family gathers around the kitchen table for take-out food, Roseanne looks at each one of them and reflects.

As she reflects she reveals that she has really been writing a book about her life and that is what we have been watching. In her "book" whatever she didn't like about her life, she changed. In "reality" Dan actually died from the heart attack. The family never won the lottery. She switched the couples around, so Mark and Darlene were actually dating, and David and Becky were dating. And it is Jackie who is gay, not Bev.

Then, at the final moments, after everyone fades away, we find Roseanne in the basement, in her old writting room reflecting over her book. She then walks up stairs and through the old kitchen and walks into the old livingroom, and sits on their old couch.

John Goodman (dan) had an episode where he had a heart attack on the show. But I don't recall any episode where he died. And in real life, he is alive and doing well.
